We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Planner to join a highly successful planning team at a multi-disciplinary main contractor based in Northampton. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands‑on experience across both pre‑construction and live project delivery, working closely with site teams to bring practical knowledge into robust programmes.
Our client delivers major construction projects nationally, with values ranging from £10m to £60m+, across sectors including industrial, retail, residential, office, fit‑out, and infrastructure. You’ll be part of a 33‑strong planning team, with a supportive environment, excellent training, and exposure to both tender‑stage schemes and live projects.
The Role – Assistant Planner
- Work alongside Site Managers, Project Managers, and Engineers to capture practical site experience and feed this into project programmes.
- Support the tender team by preparing logistics plans and build sequences, highlighting programme risks and opportunities.
- Assist in preparing tender programmes with supporting graphics and preliminaries pricing.
- Attend meetings and tender interviews, contributing to presentations and programme discussions.
- Carry out regular site visits to monitor progress, update programmes, and provide accurate assessments for internal and client reporting.
- Support the assessment of programme impacts from variations and changes.
- Balance office‑based work in Northampton with site visits and occasional working from home.
The Right Person – Assistant Planner
- Proactive, enthusiastic, and keen to get involved with site teams.
- New build general contracting experience (non‑housing).
- Strong communication and organisational skills, able to work across multiple teams and projects.
- Computer literate.
- Industry‑related qualification (ONC/HNC, B Eng, NVQ) or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of construction processes and planning activities, with a willingness to learn and develop further.
- Located within reasonable travel distance of Northampton.
