We’re looking for a full‑time practical and hands‑on Health, Safety and Operational Logistics Manager to join our team and support our stone manufacturing, yard, workshop, logistics, delivery and dispatch operations. This is a visible and key operational role (not a purely desk‑based compliance position), part of the senior management team, within a well‑established natural stone business in the Yorkshire Dales.
We are looking for someone who can be present on‑site, engage confidently with employees, drivers, supervisors and managers, and help the business apply sensible, proportionate controls that work in a real operational environment. The successful candidate will work closely with all persons on‑site to improve health and safety standards, strengthen logistics controls, support safe vehicle movements, improve loading and unloading arrangements, and help ensure that operational activity is carried out safely, efficiently and legally.
The role combines health and safety leadership with practical oversight of logistics‑related operational risk. This includes yard traffic management, pedestrian segregation, delivery and collection arrangements, loading and unloading, forklift and lifting activity, dispatch areas, contractor access, driver safety and safe movement of materials across the site. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working in a busy operational environment where manufacturing, yard activity, vehicles, materials handling, contractors and deliveries all interact.
Key responsibilities
- Support the safe planning and control of logistics activities, including deliveries, collections, loading, unloading, dispatch and yard movements.
- Review and improve workplace transport arrangements, including vehicle routes, pedestrian segregation, reversing controls, loading areas, traffic flow, visibility, signage and parking.
- Work with production, yard and logistics teams to ensure materials are moved, stored, loaded and dispatched safely.
- Support safe systems of work for forklift truck operations, lifting operations, loading/unloading, securing loads and vehicle movements.
- Liaise with drivers, contractors, suppliers and visitors to ensure site rules and logistics controls are understood and followed.
- Review arrangements for delivery driver safety, access control, site induction, waiting areas, PPE, reversing, sheeting, strapping and load security where applicable.
- Support investigation of incidents, near misses or unsafe conditions involving vehicles, loading, unloading, yard movements or logistics activities.
- Help improve operational flow where health, safety, quality, logistics and production risks overlap.
- Support, promote and improve safe working practices and compliance across the quarry, yard, stone workshops and delivery areas.
- Operate forklift equipment for moving stone, pallets and materials, where required and authorised to support the movement of orders in and out of the site.
- Carry out site checks, risk assessments, inspections and incident reporting processes across operational areas.
- Monitor housekeeping standards, PPE, equipment checks and compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
- Induct all new site employees and provide health and safety training as may be required.
What we’re looking for
- Practical experience of health and safety in an operational environment involving logistics, workplace transport, yard activity, warehousing, manufacturing, construction products, quarrying, engineering or similar.
- NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Strong awareness of risk, safe systems of work and the importance of high site housekeeping standards.
- Good understanding of workplace transport risk, loading and unloading, pedestrian segregation, material movements and contractor/driver interface.
- Ability to work constructively with production, yard, logistics and transport personnel.
- Forklift experience and relevant certification, or willingness to obtain or refresh this.
- Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with site teams, workshop teams, drivers, suppliers and colleagues.
- Experience in a high‑risk production or manufacturing environment.
- Certified to SHEQ level.
- Understanding of ISO frameworks.
- Experience of managing or supporting logistics, dispatch, yard operations, transport coordination or materials handling.
- Knowledge of load security, delivery driver safety, forklift operations, lifting operations or workplace transport risk assessment.
- Experience of improving traffic management arrangements in a manufacturing, yard, warehouse, quarrying or construction materials environment.
- Willingness to explore and adopt new technologies to improve business safety processes.
What we offer

- Free parking.
- The opportunity to join a well‑established, family‑led natural stone business with a strong operational team.

- A varied position supporting the safe operation of a business rooted in natural stone, craftsmanship and traditional industry.
