About 9fin
9fin is the AI platform powering global debt markets — the world’s largest asset class at over $145 trillion. Debt markets are vast, global, and mission‑critical, yet still run on fragmented data, PDFs, and manual workflows. 9fin replaces this broken infrastructure with a single platform that centralises proprietary credit data, deep analysis, and high‑value workflows across global markets. Today, 9fin powers teams at 300+ blue‑chip institutions worldwide, including global banks, asset managers, private equity firms, law firms, and advisors. The business is scaling at exceptional speed, with rapid expansion in the US and best‑in‑class retention driven by deep workflow adoption. We’re at a defining inflection point. With proven product‑market fit and strong, global market pull, 9fin is accelerating toward becoming the category‑defining platform for debt markets worldwide.
The Opportunity
9fin is already the leading platform for legal intelligence in debt capital markets. Our proprietary AI capabilities extract and analyse legal language at scale, and our unique dataset of credit legal documentation delivers intelligence that generic AI tools simply cannot match. Now we are investing to extend that leadership. You will join a dedicated product and engineering team to define the next chapter of 9fin's legal product — going deeper on AI, building richer workflows, and expanding into the law firm segment, where we see a significant TAM opportunity that is ours to capture. Your work will define and craft the user experience of legal professionals. Your users sit at the centre of the debt markets ecosystem: origination teams at top investment banks, lawyers at leading law firms, and credit analysts at hedge funds and credit funds. This is a rare opportunity to shape an AI‑powered legal product at the frontier of applied machine learning — inside a company that’s using technology to revolutionise the trillion‑dollar debt capital market.
Key Responsibilities
- Product & Design Strategy
- Vision & strategy: Partner closely with the Product Manager, engineering, legal analysts, and key customers to shape the vision and design strategy for the Covenants squad — helping define not just how it looks, but how it works and why it matters.
- Problem definition & structured thinking: Synthesise insights from in‑house legal subject matter experts (SMEs), customer interviews, customer feedback and data signals to frame clear user problems. Translate complex legal and financial workflows into intuitive, structured product experiences.
- Discovery: Use a range of techniques to identify and understand what users need and how they work, across a sophisticated professional audience spanning credit analysts, portfolio managers, restructuring advisors, and law firms.
- Outcome‑driven design: Align your work to clear outcomes. Prioritise ruthlessly and design solutions that maximise user and business impact in complex, high‑precision environments.
- Designing AI‑Native Legal Workflows
- AI‑powered interfaces: Design user experiences for AI‑powered legal document extraction and covenant analysis, ensuring outputs meet the precision standards required for professional use.
- Trust & Clarity: Translate complex model outputs into clear, trustworthy interfaces. Design for source attribution, confidence signalling, and explainability — where user trust is critical and errors have real‑world consequences.
- Evaluation & iteration: Partner with Product and Engineering to design feedback loops and evaluation workflows. Contribute to how we measure and improve the quality of AI outputs in production, in an environment where accuracy, source attribution, and explainability are critical to user trust.
- Frontier thinking: Identify opportunities to apply emerging AI capabilities to novel legal workflow problems — from covenant compliance monitoring to cross‑document analysis across deal histories — and prototype new interaction patterns that don’t yet have established design playbooks.
- Craft & Collaboration
- End‑to‑end design ownership: Take your ideas from early concept through to production‑ready UI. Create wireframes, prototypes, and high‑fidelity designs that are robust across edge cases, states, and complex data conditions.
- Cross‑functional collaboration: Work deeply embedded in a cross‑functional squad. Communicate complex legal and financial concepts to engineers, and translate technical AI capabilities into clear user experiences for legal and credit professionals.
- Influence & storytelling: Clearly articulate your design rationale and influence stakeholders across the business. Bring others on the journey, showing how your designs solve real user problems — especially important when exploring new, ambiguous product territory.
- Systems thinking: Contribute to and evolve our design system to support increasingly sophisticated data‑heavy and AI‑driven workflows.
About You
You’re comfortable with complexity. You’ve designed products for sophisticated users or high‑stakes domains (e.g., fintech, legal tech, enterprise SaaS, data‑heavy tools). A background in legal or financial markets is a plus but not required. Curiosity and the ability to rapidly immerse yourself in a new domain matter more. You’re energised by tricky problems — and you know how to make dense information feel clear and usable without dumbing it down. You think in systems, not just screens. You understand that good design in AI products is about shaping behaviour, feedback loops, and trust — not just layouts. You can zoom out to user journeys and zoom in to micro‑interactions.
You Care Deeply About Trust And Precision. Edge cases, error states, empty states, and ambiguity are your natural focus. You design for confidence — especially when AI is involved. You’re AI‑native In How You Work. You use generative AI tools as a natural part of your design process: exploring interaction patterns, synthesising research, generating prototypes, or stress‑testing ideas. You are excited about how AI changes not just what we build, but how we build. You thrive with a blank page. You’re energised by defining something new rather than polishing something established. You’re comfortable making progress in ambiguity, running lightweight experiments, and iterating quickly based on evidence. You’re a strong communicator. You can run discovery interviews, facilitate workshops, and clearly explain your thinking. You collaborate well with PMs and engineers, and you know when to challenge and when to align. You know your craft. You’re fluent in Figma and AI prototyping tools. You can choose the right fidelity at the right time. You’ve worked on or evolved a design system. You sweat the details — and you ship.
