What is the role about?

The Head of Clinical Excellence & Service Development will be responsible for leading and delivering on the specialist clinical aspects of the Reed Wellbeing interventions. They will ensure all service delivery meets with the relevant clinical expectations, safeguarding both participants and staff. They will build and maintain positive and effective relationships and partnerships both internally and externally to the organisation. They will implement, monitor, and maintain agreed standards of care, reporting to the Reed Wellbeing Divisional Director when standards are not met.

Just some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Clinical Governance: Ensure that a robust clinical governance framework is in place that effectively underpins participant safety and the provision of the highest quality of care standards and ensure that this framework is appropriately maintained and updated. Lead and drive the delivery of excellent standards of care within all clinical areas, driving a culture of safety, clinical effectiveness, and continuous improvement. Provide clear direction and leadership to all Reed Wellbeing departments on clinical matters. Undertake responsibility for the clinical maintenance of Reed Wellbeing services and products by developing and managing the clinical audit process. Maintain continuous professional development including a robust understanding of topics relevant to service delivery, awareness of new and emerging research and attendance at public health working groups and national updates. Proactively manage, escalate, resolve, and mitigate incidents and adverse effects and demonstrate leadership both in the resolution of these issues and in assisting services to agree on and implement new protocol. Ensure that all clinical considerations are sensitive to diversity and inequality within communities and priority groups as highlighted within the contract specifications.
  • Service Improvement: Establish market intelligence regarding service/product requirements and the key drivers of behavioural change. Implement, monitor, and maintain agreed standards of care in line with existing guidance, service commissioning requirements and the national agenda. Play a key role in clinical oversight boards in order to assess efficacy of Reed Wellbeing services and to recommend programme-related changes. Design, implement and evaluate company pilots in service provision. Lead on the clinical aspects of the product evaluation cycle and demonstrate tangible service improvements as a direct outcome of all work undertaken. Review the Evaluation of Service (EOS) and participant satisfaction surveys to liaise with services delivery leads, ensuring active identification of improvement opportunities and implementation of developmental actions. Draw evidence-based conclusions from research/feedback to then form the basis for new service delivery/product design. Oversee the piloting/testing of all new services and materials, working with colleagues to ensure the practical use of the new service/product and that its impact is measured. Work with colleagues to ensure services/products are delivered in accordance with quality assurance policies and good practices. Build and maintain positive and effective relationships and partnerships both internally and externally to the organisation including ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and feedback to relevant stakeholders as appropriate. Work with the company’s Audit & Compliance team to ensure that contract-specific guidance and policies take account of appropriate aspects of clinical-related delivery standards. Ensure that identified knowledge on service priorities is communicated cross-contract to prevent duplication and to share good practice.
  • Business Development: Work alongside the Reed Wellbeing Divisional Director and Business Development (BD) Team to support the development, implementation and monitoring of new Reed Wellbeing services and products across healthy lifestyles, diabetes prevention, employability-related and commercial opportunities in alignment with the company vision. Support the Learning & Development (L&D) Team to train staff on the delivery of new services and products. Provide clinical sign off for all Reed Wellbeing services, outreach, and products. Support the BD team with the completion of bid proposals by providing guidance and data to support effective submissions. Lead on the clinical aspects of implementation as the lead for Clinical Governance and provide support to all areas of implementation.
  • Staff Development & Support: Support the L&D team to develop and deliver both staff induction and ongoing training to ensure continuous professional development, particularly surrounding effective behaviour change. Work with the company’s Head of Health & Safety & Safeguarding to act as a point of call for safeguarding to report and resolve incidents appropriately. Provide an additional line of management for all Reed Wellbeing coaches and advisors in order to provide clinical support and development. Contribute to staff management and development by performing clinical observations and development where required. Ensure that all clinical quality improvement services engage proactively both internally and externally with staff, participants, and relevant partners. Provide clinical oversight and management to all specialisms (e.g. Medical Director) as the business grows.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with:

  • Essential Attainment: Experience in designing/writing products in the health and wellbeing sector. Degree level education or equivalent work experience in an appropriate discipline. Excellent written communication skills and ability to adapt writing style to different audiences.
  • Essential Criteria: Demonstrable strong track record in project and people management. Previous clinical experience and good working knowledge around provision of clinical care. Strong understanding of quality improvements and clinical governance frameworks. Excellent research and analytical skills. Working knowledge of commissioning pathways and funding streams for wellbeing services. Experience of working with clinical commissioning groups. Experience of new service implementation and risk management with implementations, including the ability to prioritise and manage demanding workloads. Experience of management of clinical teams with variety of expertise.
  • Desirable Criteria: Experience in clinical governance in the health and wellbeing sector. Experience of working with government departments or agencies. Experience in identifying, appointing, and managing the delivery of external subject matter experts. Member of relevant committees, e.g. NICE.
  • Screening Criteria: A minimum of two A-Levels or an equivalent Level three Diploma. GCSE English Language at a minimum of a Grade B (or equivalent Level two qualification). OR achievement of a Level two in Literacy Assessment at interview stage. Degree or relevant qualification. Degree topics may include psychology, sociology, social care/science. Relevant qualifications would include Information Advice and Guidance NVQs, Brokerage Standard, Social Work qualifications or qualifications relating to work-based learning with the specific client groups this role will involve. Level three or four NVQ would be of interest. Demonstrable people management experience across a variety of different business settings / sector (latter point is to identify candidates who have shown themselves to be adaptable). Experience and understanding of the design and implementation of complex operational processes across multiple teams.
