Associate Director, Portfolio Management – Real Assets Credit | London (hybrid)
An alternative investment manager is hiring into the Portfolio Management team of its real estate lending strategy. The strategy has grown quickly across several fund vehicles, and this is the most senior hire into the team, working as deputy to the Head of Portfolio Management.
Portfolio Management sits at the centre of the platform. It holds the top-down view of the whole book, represents the portfolio at Investment Committee, signs off investor reporting, manages fund-level liquidity and financing, and presents performance to the CEO, Board and investors. It is the one seat that sees every deal from allocation through financing, reporting and exit – and the person in it is expected to have a view, and to be heard.
The role
- Own the portfolio view: performance, composition, deployment and returns across all vehicles, with the ability to go deep on any single credit.
- Sit on Investment Committee as the Portfolio Management voice on new deals.
- Run the investor reporting cycle end to end and contribute to Board and CEO reporting.
- Oversee fund liquidity and the financing facilities that lever the book.
- Support fundraising, investor meetings and the launch of new lending vehicles.
- Build the processes and tooling – including AI – that let the function scale.
Who this suits
This role does not map neatly onto a single background, and that is deliberate. You may already sit in portfolio management, portfolio monitoring or a CIO-office function at a credit or real estate manager and want a seat with real authority and visibility. You may have come from origination, underwriting or capital markets and want the whole picture rather than one stage of it. Or you may be in a risk, capital allocation or fund finance role that has put you close to the deals, the leverage and the investors. What matters is that you understand how a deal moves from allocation through financing to investor reporting, you would rather build a function than inherit one, and you are as comfortable in front of a CEO as you are in the detail.
Requirements
- 6–8 years in alternative asset manager with exposure to private credit or real estate credit, real asset debt.
- Sound grasp of fund structures, leverage and how deal-level decisions feed fund-level returns.
- Critical thinker with a questioning mindset: you check the detail, ask the extra question and own an issue until it is resolved.
- Executive presence: able to present to senior leadership and investors and to speak for the function.
- Modelling is helpful; judgement is essential.
