8x8 connects our customers and teams globally, empowering CX leaders with performance and insights to make smarter decisions, delight customers, and drive lasting business impact.

About 8x8: 8x8 connects people and organizations through seamless communication on the industry's most integrated platform for Customer Experience — combining Contact Center, Unified Communications, and CPaaS APIs. We believe CX limits were meant to be shattered, and the engineers who build our platform are at the heart of making that happen.

About the Team: The BizApps Commerce Team owns the billing infrastructure that powers 8x8's commercial engine. We build and operate the systems that handle how customers are billed, how partners are onboarded, and how revenue flows through the business. Our work sits at the intersection of Product, Finance, and Platform engineering, and the systems we build are used every day by customers, partners, Salesforce ops, and finance teams worldwide. We work across a modern, distributed stack and ship things that matter. We move fast, we own what we build end-to-end, and we care deeply about correctness because in billing, a bug isn't just a bug - it's a wrong invoice, an angry customer, or missed revenue.

The Role: We're looking for a Senior Software Developer who is excited about building reliable, scalable billing and commerce systems. This is a hybrid role with 2 days in our London office. You'll join a tight-knit team of engineers and work directly with your engineering manager, senior developers, QA, and cross-functional partners across Salesforce, finance, and channel ops. This is a full-stack backend-leaning role. You'll work on real problems like customer hierarchy modeling, subscription lifecycle management, consumption based billing, tax integrations, payment integrations, billing event processing and you'll have meaningful ownership from day one. Our platform makes extensive use of Spring Boot and Spring Cloud and the stack is primarily written using Java. The technology stack is entirely owned by 8x8 which means engineers have exposure to many facets of architecture.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, design, operations, infrastructure) to build innovative application experiences
  • Develop reusable software components for interfacing with other back-end platforms
  • Analyze and optimize code for quality, efficiency, and performance
  • Lead complex technical or product efforts and provide technical guidance to peers
  • Architect efficient and scalable systems that drive complex applications
  • Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues
  • Establish ownership of components, features, or systems with expert end-to-end understanding

Key Qualifications:

  • 8+ years experience in designing and developing scalable enterprise level back-end solutions
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science or another highly technical subject where programming was a key requirement
  • Professional experience in software development using modern programming languages like Java or Python
  • Familiar with architecture, design, development, and deployment of large scale enterprise systems
  • Understand security concepts like OAuth and build reliable and safe applications
  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and performance/scale considerations
  • Experience working with relational databases including development, troubleshooting and performance optimization
  • Understanding and hands-on experience with API-driven designs focusing in testable and scalable implementations
  • Experience with multiple technology stacks: Cloud Dev, Platforms, Web Dev, Frameworks or service–oriented architecture
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as: Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging brokers like RabbitMQ or Kafka
  • Comfortable with AI-assisted code development tools and understanding of their role in accelerating modern software delivery

Anything Else?

  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills
  • Experience working in a global environment, across multiple time zones and geographies
  • Exposure to Salesforce or a similar large CRM system
  • Familiarity with API-first development, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications
  • Experience with integrations and ability to get up to speed with multiple third-party products and their APIs and Environments
  • Strong foundations in software engineering, encompassing the entire software delivery lifecycle

8x8 believes diversity makes our company stronger which is why we are a proud equal opportunities employer and encourage all of our staff to bring their authentic selves to work. We believe in fairness which is why we have been a member of the Living Wage Foundation for many years and we believe in security so reserve the right to undertake background checks on anyone that we extend an employment offer to.
