The Senior Counsel - Product will be based in our London office (Hybrid - 2 days per week in our Aldgate office), working closely with our UK and US-based executive teams, business stakeholders, and colleagues on our global legal team. You will be focusing on our product and engineering organisations, providing legal guidance that is baked into the development process rather than bolted on at the end. You will act as the central legal point of contact for all product matters, handling day-to-day questions directly and looping in specialist counsel when needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Embed within product and engineering teams across the full product lifecycle, from concept through launch and iteration.
  • Serve as the single point of legal contact for product teams, coordinating specialist input (privacy, IP, regulatory, commercial) as needed.
  • Surface legal risks early in the design process and work with teams to find compliant paths forward.
  • Advise on privacy and data use in product features, including data flows, consent mechanisms, and international transfers.
  • Partner with regulatory counsel to monitor regulatory developments, including telecom, AI, accessibility, export control, and localisation.
  • Partner with IP counsel on patent protection, trademarks, and open-source licensing.
  • Partner with commercial counsel on technology partner agreements and product-related 8x8 terms (end-user terms, SLAs, service descriptions).
  • Review product marketing claims, disclosures, and launch materials.
  • Advise on product risk, including misuse, disclaimers, and AI transparency.
  • Build playbooks, training materials, and approval frameworks that enable product and engineering teams to handle routine legal requirements independently.
  • Use AI tools to automate routine legal analysis, accelerate reviews, and extend your coverage beyond what a single counsel could deliver alone.
Qualifications:
  • Law degree from a nationally-recognised law school and current practising certificate.
  • Minimum of 5 years PQE.
  • Minimum of 3 years in-house as product counsel (or substantially equivalent) at a SaaS, cloud, or technology company.
  • Demonstrated experience embedding within product and engineering teams and enabling compliant product launches.
  • Ability to operate as a product legal generalist while knowing when to bring in specialists, at business pace.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with a commercial and pragmatic approach.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fluid environment handling multiple tasks and projects concurrently while maintaining the highest standards and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications (desirable but not essential):
  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools to augment legal work, such as automating routine analysis, accelerating document review, or building AI-assisted workflows.
  • Experience in the technology or cloud communications industry.
  • Experience advising on AI/ML products, including generative AI and automated decision-making.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property and data protection laws as applied to product development.
  • Experience with reseller, distribution, and other indirect sales relationships as they affect product development.
  • Experience with SaaS company RFP/RFI responses.
  • Familiarity with US Revenue Recognition principles.
  • Experience working for a US-based multinational company with a strong UK presence.
