The Counsel - Commercial role will be based in our London office (Hybrid – 2 days per week in our office). The Counsel will join 8x8’s Global Commercial Legal team, reporting to the senior commercial lawyer in the EMEA region, and will be working closely with our US and internationally-based executive teams, business stakeholders, and colleagues.
You will play a key role in negotiating contracts across the full range of 8x8’s commercial work, from high-volume no-negotiation forms to complex, bespoke agreements with multinational companies.
Key Responsibilities- Draft, review, negotiate, and execute a range of commercial contracts with customers, partners, suppliers, and agents.
- Proactively identify and advise on legal risks, escalating those as necessary to stakeholders.
- Be a business partner to your non-legal colleagues to help achieve business goals with legally sound strategies.
- Collaborate with your colleagues in the Global Commercial Legal team and with US and global stakeholders.
8x8’s Legal team is committed to leveraging artificial intelligence and legal technology to enhance efficiency, quality, and speed. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about adopting and championing AI tools, such as AI-assisted research, contract analysis, document review, and workflow automation, and will actively contribute to the team’s culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications- Law degree from a nationally-recognised law school.
- Admitted to practice in England and Wales and hold a current practising certificate.
- Minimum of 5 years PQE with at least 3 years’ commercial contracts experience.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in commercial or corporate law with a top-tier law firm.
- Demonstrated experience in structuring and negotiating B2B SaaS agreements, from high-volume no-negotiation forms to complex, bespoke agreements with multinational companies.
- Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication and relationship-building skills.
- A commercial and pragmatic attitude and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a client‑centric, fast‑paced environment handling multiple tasks and projects concurrently while maintaining the highest standards and attention to detail.
- Experience in the technology or cloud communications industry.
- Experience with UK government contract frameworks (e.g. G-Cloud and Network Services).
- Familiarity with intellectual property and data protection laws.
- Experience with reseller, distribution, and other indirect sales relationships.
- Experience with SaaS company RFP/RFI responses.
- Familiarity with revenue recognition principles.
- Experience working for a US-based multinational company with a strong UK presence.
