Salary: £29,000 - £30,000 + bonuses

Basic Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (Mon-Fri 9am to 6pm)

Do you understand the European political and policy landscape? Are you willing to learn how a well-placed headline can change a policy? We are looking for someone who is smart and has some experience of influencing or taking part in policy processes within or around the EU or an EU Member State.

Sitting within the Advocacy, Insights and Mobilisation team at 89up, our EU team works on campaigns and projects that set out to influence EU policy or European citizens more widely. We combine skills within traditional public affairs with great communications tactics such as national and international press and digital to build strong campaigns that influence policymakers both directly and indirectly.

We guide our clients in how to speak to different political stakeholders within the EU as well as how to communicate complicated policy issues to the general public.

As a junior account executive within this team, you will be expected to support colleagues on a range of interesting projects, learning from experienced seniors while also bringing your own thinking and ideas to the table. You should have a keen interest in how the news cycle moves and a desire to build a career in political communications.

  • An understanding of the EU policy-making process
  • Be fluent in English and have good written and oral communication skills
  • A good multi-tasker and enjoy the idea of working on a number of policy issues at once
  • Professional proficiency in German, Spanish, or Polish
  • Conduct broad policy research and intelligence on specific European and international projects
  • Develop relations with colleagues and other stakeholders of the Public Affairs and Media sector and participate in meetings (internal and external), conferences and debates to develop your professional network.
  • Involved in drafting policy, press, and public affairs collateral such as letters, briefings, press releases, media pitches, and other documents
  • Support in reaching out to political stakeholders and journalists
  • Work on global accounts with an advocacy focus bringing your knowledge of European politics and media landscapes to support broader international activity.
  • Participate in ongoing projects for EU focused and international clients and provide assistance to consultants with tasks including but not limited to:
  • Work on integrated client accounts and manage around 4 accounts simultaneously
  • Provide support to client work and new business opportunities
  • Oversee account servicing including responding to client queries, diarising internal and external meetings and booking rooms or setting up conference calls, keeping meeting minutes, writing status reports etc.
  • Conduct policy research and produce mailings
  • General admin support tasks (e.g., update databases, translations)
