The Part-Time Legal Director will provide expert legal advice and support to the organisation and associated companies on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters. The position is also client-facing at an Account Director level on campaign, policy and strategic communications projects relating to justice and international human rights.
Working on a flexible schedule, the role involves mitigating risk, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and contributing to the overall legal strategy of the business. The Legal Director will be a seasoned legal professional seeking a reduced hours commitment while maintaining a high-impact role.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory
- Provide clear, practical, and business-oriented legal advice to management and teams across the organization.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Assist with dispute resolution and provide guidance on risk mitigation.
- Represent the organization in legal proceedings, negotiations, or settlements.
Compliance
- Ensure the organisation complies with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Monitor changes in legislation and advise on implications for the business.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable laws, including corporate, employment, intellectual property, and data protection (ICO registration).
Corporate Governance
- Support senior leadership in governance and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in resolutions and other governance-related documentation.
- Manage legal aspects of corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, or restructuring.
Risk Management
- Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive solutions to minimize exposure.
- Develop and implement policies to address legal risks and ensure compliance.
Other Duties:
- Support HR / Ops team in all employment law matters re. staff contracts, investigations and disputes.
- Manage UK Visa portal for the company
- Provide training to staff on compliance e.g. anti-corruption, GDPR, intellectual property etc.
- Review and approve company insurance
- Contribute to new business through drafting bids & attending pitches for work
Qualifications and Experience:
- A qualified solicitor or barrister with a valid practicing certificate (or equivalent legal qualification in the relevant jurisdiction).
- Previous in-house legal counsel experience preferred but not essential.
- Exposure to media / communications / technology industries are an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, data protection, and employment law.
- Ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions under time pressure and to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a part-time capacity.
- Discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
