Are you an experienced designer looking for an opportunity to apply your creative talents to campaigns that genuinely change the world?

About the Role

At 89up, we are dedicated to delivering world-class digital and printed content for our client’s campaigns and organisations. This includes impactful video and static content for social media and events, print collateral, and visual branding. These outputs are often a part of larger integrated communications campaigns delivered by the agency, or are specific requests from our clients to enable their work.

Our designers also work closely with our web design and development team to create world-class websites for campaigns and large organisations. They produce both lightning-fast campaign platforms for quick burst campaigns, as well as large web platforms for NGOs and other non-profit organisations.

We are looking for a designer to join our team and help deliver impactful work. The ideal person thrives in a fast paced, agile environment, multi-tasking across a number of different projects and is motivated by working on good causes and purpose driven projects. Someone who is keenly interested in design and creative trends – particularly with what\’s happening in the world of social and digital culture – and loves exploring how these could be implemented for our clients. You will need to enjoy wearing multiple hats and be confident mucking in when required.

What You Will Do

The role is predominantly focused on motion and static design for social media, digital and print, though could also include brand development, and expand to include web design and UX. We work across a wide range of visual styles, from illustrative explainer films to clean, vector-based motion design – so you’ll need to be comfortable adapting your approach depending on the brief and the client. Versatility and a strong visual eye are key.

  • Social and Digital Content: You will create a wider range of social content (moving image/animated and static for paid/organic placement), as well as digital display ads
  • Print design: Report designs, event collateral
  • Creative Development: You will contribute to evolving internal and client briefs, as well as creating ideas for pitches. This will include working with colleagues in digital, PR, advocacy, research and web. You will also support the business with the creation of winning pitch decks.
  • Team Collaboration: You will be working closely with our Head of Design, and three other designers. For social content, you will also work closely with our digital Advocacy team, using data insights to fine tune design outputs for targeted paid social campaigns, and also help support our client servicing team in delivery of integrated campaigns. You will have the ability to contribute to creative ideation and the team\’s approach to new briefs.

You will also have the opportunity to learn and grow skills in UX development and website design, as well as brand development.

What We’re Looking For

You will be a smart self-starter who can think on their feet and juggle multiple projects and client requests. You are someone driven by creative curiosity – especially how motion and graphic design can be used to inspire, to communicate, to evoke action. You will be fascinated and expert on trends and creative concepts within social media content.

  • You should have a high level of competency in Adobe After Effects, with at least mid-level competency with Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop .
  • You should be experienced in using online content creation tools such as Canva
  • You will have to demonstrate how you can work from a client’s brief all the way through to an impactful output, working collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues.
  • Very high standard of written and spoken English
  • Ability to design for both print and digital outputs
  • Willingness to train and use new software

Useful:

  • Competency with Adobe Premiere, and/or online editing tools such as CapCut
  • Knowledge of digital marketing strategies
  • Experience with print design (in particular understanding of how files should be set up for different print outputs)
  • Some experience of UX development and web design
  • Experience using content management systems (especially Drupal or WordPress)
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS
  • Base knowledge of SEO
  • Knowledge or any experience in preparing and presenting proposals, client and resource management
  • Broad understanding of the integrated communications landscape

We’re open to applicants with a range of experience and blend of your skills. This really is a role that will allow you to explore your strengths in a multi-disciplinary environment. You will experience more exposure to senior team members (experts in a variety of fields who are on hand to offer masterclasses and mentoring), opportunities (especially within the integrated marketing mix – so you learn about other specialisms and try your hand at them), creativity and content creation, to clients and client management.

All of these things will arguably enable you to hone your talent, while broadening your skill-set and fast tracking your career progression, in a passionate, supportive and a friendly environment.

What We’re Offering

  • Hybrid Working: 3 office days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday as core days. You may need to come into the office on Mondays and Fridays for important meetings/key deliveries).
  • Generous Leave: 24 days holiday (a maximum of 4 days are taken for closure over Christmas, plus an additional day off on your birthday).
  • Competitive Compensation: A competitive base salary with performance-linked discretionary bonuses twice yearly.
  • Family Support: Enhanced maternity/paternity pay.
  • Financial Security: Pension company contributions, gold-plated sickness benefits, and life insurance.
  • Wellbeing: Online GP, private counselling, eyecare vouchers, and a comprehensive wellbeing service.
  • Commuting: Cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Inclusive Culture: A strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Career Growth: Clear career progression pathways and opportunities to develop in a fast-growth agency.
  • Mentorship: Formal mentoring and training schemes to support your success.
  • Impactful Work: A dynamic work environment where your contributions are heard and counted, not lost in the noise and tangle of a large corporate business.

This is an opportunity to work on some of the most pressing issues of our time, with people who are committed to making a difference. If you’re passionate about how creative ideas can drive change, we want to hear from you.
