DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a Senior Development Engineer within our Joint Reconstruction R&D Knee New Product Development Team. You will be working alongside other specialists responsible for providing technical R&D support for new product introductions in the market. Development Engineers play a vital role as a core member of the new product development team. They are responsible for working closely with design engineers, quality engineers, manufacturing associates, and suppliers throughout all phases of the product development lifecycle. The development engineer is critical in influencing the design for manufacture, defining the design attributes, and transferring the product design to manufacturing. This role will collaborate with internal team members and outside manufacturing partners to drive the development & qualification of the new product introductions.
This is a permanent, full-time position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to new product development projects from concept generation through design verification and launch readiness.
- Apply design control, risk management, verification testing and problem-solving methods to deliver safe, effective and compliant product solutions.
- Evaluate design issues, materials, technologies and product improvements, making clear, data-driven recommendations.
- Coordinate prototype manufacture, test method development, hands‑on/simulated testing, tolerance analyses and technical report generation.
- Partner with surgeons, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, vendors, commercial teams and project stakeholders to resolve technical challenges and meet milestones.
- Support documentation for development history files, design reviews, Risk Management and regulatory submissions.
- Coach junior engineers, interns or design resources on engineering processes, tools and good design practice.

Experience, skills & proficiencies required:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering subject is required, a relevant master’s degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 4 years work experience in a Product Development role is required.
- Strong mechanical engineering capability, development and analysis skills.
- Expertise in medical device design controls, design inputs/outputs, verification, validation, risk management, DHF documentation and regulatory expectations.
- Ability to analyse technical problems, interpret data and recommend practical, well-reasoned engineering solutions.
- Experience working in multi-functional project teams with the ability to manage multiple priorities and delivery to milestones.
- Confident communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders, including surgeons, vendors and internal partners.
- Curiosity, ownership and a continuous improvement mindset, with the motivation to contribute to a high-performing R&D culture.
- A proven track record of leading a variety of development projects through to completion is essential for this role.
Preferred:
- Applied Process Excellence/ Design Excellence, LEAN and Value Engineering experience, formal Green Belt/Black Belt Certification is an advantage.
- Analytical simulation skills with practical use of Matlab or Ansys software being advantageous.
- Own the resolution of complex engineering and manufacturing problems utilising advanced techniques, rapid and conventional prototyping, and other available technologies.
- Experience working in new product development projects and partnering with design teams.
This position may require up to 10% travel both domestic and international.
