The Glasgow Finance Division helps senior management and its individual business units manage the Firm's risk by implementing financial controls over our business activities. The division is crucial to safeguarding the Firm's franchise, reporting on current performance, and evaluating business opportunities. We have an exciting opportunity for a self-starter to deliver data governance for the Finance Division. The successful candidate will oversee the co-ordination of all governance deliverables across Finance, developing strong partnerships with Finance Systems Owners, Data Owners, Finance Data Governance leads, Finance Report owners and the Firmwide Data Office.
This is a key role within the Finance Divisional Data Office, who are responsible for the Data Governance framework for the Finance Division. Their responsibilities include:
- Data Governance — facilitating Finance-wide data governance processes by implementing key data principles and providing valuable oversight in line with the Global Data Quality Policy and BCBS 239 execution.
- Systems Data Governance – implementing and executing systems governance standards including executing lineage for Finance, managing system feed governance and system dictionaries.
- Authority Data Sourcing – partnering with technology to ensure data sourced into Finance is from data authorities to enable improved data quality.
The ideal candidate will understand data’s importance to Finance and will be able to effectively work with various levels of business and technology stakeholders toward data governance goals. Given the heightened focus on adequate data quality governance, this is a growing team in the Glasgow office and presents a great opportunity to help shape the function going forward and gain exposure to a wide range of functions, products, and management across Morgan Stanley.
What will you be doing?
- Contribute to the delivery of projects across an international portfolio to ensure ongoing compliance with the Firmwide and Regulatory Data Quality standards (including policy compliance and data lineage).
- Co-ordinate and document Finance system lineage and feed governance, partnering with colleagues across multiple areas, including External Reporting, Treasury, Capital, and Technology.
- Create, manage and maintain feed governance and system dictionary deliverables for Data Owned applications.
- Partner with IT and Finance colleagues to identify authoritative sources and internal ownership for data.
- Working with global colleagues to build and document internal processes and controls, identifying opportunities for ongoing improvement.

- Understanding and experience of good risk and governance frameworks, preferably data governance.
- Experience with metadata management tooling would be beneficial but is not necessary (e.g.: Collibra, MetaCenter).
