Overview
Mechanical Maintenance Technician based in Peterborough, United Kingdom. 12-month contract (likely to extend) with a base pay of £34.40 per hour. Hours: Mon–Thu 08:00–16:30, Fri 08:00–13:00 (flexible start/finish times) including a 9-day fortnight schedule.
This role is part of a multi-disciplinary maintenance team, providing technical expertise across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems to support world-class engine testing and development.
What you’ll be doing
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and carry out effective fault-finding and repair.
- Maintain, repair, and install facility equipment and support systems.
- Read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical drawings and schematics.
- Support commissioning of new rigs, systems, and test cells.
- Run improvement projects and root cause investigations, presenting findings to engineers and managers.
- Mentor apprentices and support knowledge sharing within the team.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and efficient work environment in line with health & safety and 5S standards.
What we’re looking for
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent experience), with completed apprenticeship or strong industry background.
- Solid knowledge of maintenance processes, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical drawings.
- Industrial maintenance experience (10+ years, including apprenticeship).
- Fault finding/diagnostics on hydraulic or fuel systems.
- Laser alignment of rotating equipment.
- Boiler servicing accreditation.
- Experience in facility test cells, engine testing, or plant/equipment maintenance.
- Transferable backgrounds from manufacturing or food industry maintenance are considered.
