We’re working with a highly respected independent school in Surrey who are looking to bring on an experienced IT Engineer to join their forward-thinking IT Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced IT professional to play a critical role in supporting and enhancing a dynamic learning environment that embraces creativity, safety, and cutting-edge technology.

The successful candidate will become part of a close-knit IT team, supporting a wide range of technologies across Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, virtualisation, cloud systems and networking.

The Role:

You’ll report into the IT Manager and work alongside a team of five, supporting a diverse user base of students, faculty, and staff. The position focuses on resolving escalations, maintaining robust infrastructure, and contributing to the future-proofing of systems and services. You’ll be responsible for both day-to-day operational support and larger-scale project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve escalated technical issues via the Help Desk and communicate progress effectively with users
  • Support the procurement, testing, and implementation of hardware and software
  • Maintain and enhance infrastructure including servers, networks, and endpoint devices
  • Lead on backup and disaster recovery strategies, including bi-annual reporting
  • Ensure compatibility of new technologies with existing infrastructure and educational needs
  • Manage delegated IT projects and resources
  • Contribute to IT documentation and user policies
  • Stay up to date with cybersecurity threats and solutions

Technical Environment Includes:

  • VMWare Enterprise
  • Windows Server (DNS, DHCP, AD, GPO)
  • Networking (Aruba CLI/Switching, VLANs, WiFi)
  • MacOS, Windows 10/11, ChromeOS
  • JAMF, Office 365, GSuite, Meraki, PaperCut
  • Cybersecurity tools and protocols

About You:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in IT within an enterprise or educational setting
  • Strong second-line/third-line support background
  • Comfortable across Mac, Windows, and Google environments
  • Confident managing infrastructure and supporting large user bases
  • A clear communicator with strong organisational skills
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced setting

Desirable:

  • Certifications such as Microsoft, Apple, Google, ITIL, or relevant BTEC/HND
  • Experience with scripting (e.g. Bash, Perl), access control, CCTV (Milestone), and SSO
