Barrow-in-Furness | £51,000 + Benefits | SC Clearance Required

We are seeking an experienced Unix/Linux Systems Administrator with strong Solaris expertise to join our team in Barrow-in-Furness. This is a site-based role, 5 days per week, working on critical defence and engineering programmes.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a secure and technically challenging environment, where your skills will directly support vital national infrastructure.

The Role

As a Systems Administrator, you will:

Provide support and administration of Unix/Linux environments, with a strong focus on Solaris 10 & 11 (experience with Solaris 8/9 is highly desirable).

Manage system performance, patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

Develop and maintain automation scripts (Bash, Python, etc.) to improve efficiency and streamline operations.

Support project delivery teams with technical expertise and system configuration.

Ensure systems remain secure, stable, and compliant with security standards.

About You

We\’re looking for someone who has:

Proven experience in Unix/Linux administration within enterprise environments.

Strong knowledge of Solaris 10 & 11 (with Solaris 8/9 experience a bonus).

Scripting skills in Bash, Python, or other relevant languages.

A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.

The ability to work independently in a highly regulated and secure environment.

Security & Eligibility

This role requires sole UK nationals only (dual nationals cannot be considered).

You must be eligible for SC clearance (existing SC or DV clearance highly advantageous).

Due to the nature of the work, the position is 100% site-based in Barrow-in-Furness.
