Head of Programme Management Office - AI & Transformation
We are looking for an experienced Head of Programme Management Office to take a leading role in a major business transformation, helping an ambitious technology organisation evolve the way it plans, governs and delivers strategic change.
This is far more than a traditional PMO leadership position.
The successful individual will help shape a modern, AI-enabled operating environment, introducing smarter ways of working, simplifying governance and ensuring the organisation can move quickly without losing control, visibility or accountability.
The Role
You will take ownership of the PMO function and develop a practical, commercially focused approach to portfolio management that supports a fast-moving organisation.
Rather than introducing governance for governance's sake, the focus will be on creating simple, effective frameworks that improve decision-making, accelerate delivery and provide leadership with clear visibility across strategic initiatives.
A major part of the position will also be supporting the organisation's adoption of AI.
This includes helping teams understand how AI, copilots and emerging agent-based technologies can change the way work is delivered, while ensuring the people and cultural aspects of that transition are managed effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and evolve the PMO function, creating a lean and effective operating model aligned to the organisation's growth and transformation agenda.
- Provide executive-level oversight across the portfolio, including delivery progress, priorities, dependencies, risks, resources and financials.
- Establish clear and consistent reporting that gives leadership an accurate view of portfolio performance and enables faster decision-making.
- Help shape new ways of working as AI tools, copilots and automation become increasingly embedded across teams.
- Lead the organisational change required to support AI adoption, recognising that successful transformation will depend as much on people, behaviours and capability as it does technology.
- Build, lead and develop a high-performing PMO team with a strong culture of ownership, pace and continuous improvement.
Experience
- Significant experience leading a PMO, portfolio function or enterprise transformation office.
- Strong experience establishing governance and portfolio reporting across complex programmes.
- Evidence of building PMO capability or bringing structure to environments where governance and reporting were previously fragmented.
- Confidence working directly with C-suite and senior leadership teams, including the ability to challenge priorities and decisions constructively.
- A strong understanding of the opportunities presented by AI and automation, with genuine interest in how these technologies will reshape organisational structures, skills and ways of working
