About the role
We’re looking for a Full Stack Frontend PHP developer to join our 8 Signals software development team, working on custom web platforms, internal systems, and API-driven applications. This is a primarily remote role with a strong full stack experience. Daily tasks include writing and maintaining clean, modular code, collaborating with team members to execute software development projects, and working to ensure optimal performance and scalability of web solutions. The role also involves front-end compatibility and responsiveness across different devices and platforms. This role is best suited to a mid-level or senior developer who is confident working independently on web applications.
Salary: £40,000 to £50,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Hours of Work: Full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday to Friday; however, some flexibility may be required on occasion.
Location: Primarily Remote – however candidate preferably based in North East, UK, as may be required to come into the office on occasion. UK based working hours and time zone. Occasional travel to client sites / offices. Travel will be subsidised. Right to work in the UK is required.
Skills & Experience Required
- Back-End Web Development in PHP with framework experience in Laravel and CodeIgniter.
- MySQL/MariaDB database design, querying and optimisation.
- Front-End Development with skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery.
- Supporting Front-end mobile-responsive development and cross-browser compatibility.
- Comfortable working in existing and legacy codebases.
- Writing clean, maintainable and well-structured code.
- Able to work independently in a remote environment.
- Experience with software testing, including unit or feature testing.
- Understanding of security best practices (SQL injection, XSS, CSRF).
- A self-starter mindset – able to work remotely and communicate well with a distributed team.
Nice to Have (Bonus)
- Experience with API development & integrations.
- Building and maintaining custom REST APIs.
- Experience with Office365 APIs.
- Experience with Stripe APIs.
- Experience with email APIs (Mailgun, SendGrid, etc.).
- Knowledge of version control systems, such as Git (preferred).
- Experience in Software Development and Programming methodologies.
- Good communication skills being able to clearly explain technical ideas.
- Comfortable collaborating remotely with non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive in asking questions and providing updates.
- Comfort working with cloud infrastructure – primarily AWS.
- Experience maintaining or modernising legacy PHP systems.
