Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

As the Private Sector Lead, you will work across multiple functions to ensure that our DS & Business Unit strategies are accelerated through our network of Private Sector Groups and independent hospitals whilst identifying new partnership opportunities that require the deployment of commercial, value added or financial solutions to drive business growth. You will own and develop the senior relationships with relevant C-Suite members and will play a leading role in negotiations, alongside your business unit leaders.

You will become the expert in understanding the evolving trends, needs and business models within the private sector and will partner with BU commercial teams to ensure strategy meets the evolving landscape. You will also be responsible for shaping value based procurement (VBP) conversations with finance, procurement and leadership teams to ensure that DS is able to address, support & meet any evolving VBP needs.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Lead delivery of the private sector growth plan via CBM and in alignment with the BU leads and commercial organisation to deliver financial goals.
  • Build an in-depth understanding and long-term relationships with Private Sector C-Suite stakeholders with the view of accelerating DS strategic priorities.
  • Manage the Private CBM and coordinate core DS strategy with Commercial Lead, enhancing the support between NHS and Private commercial business managers.
  • Work in collaboration with Value lead and Commercial Lead to optimise Value processes, maintain high engagement with both internal and external stakeholders and embed the DS value proposition strategy to develop long term partnership agreements.
  • Co-ordinate internal resources to deliver appropriate value-based solutions for Private Group accounts.
  • Shape and support the positioning of innovative proposals aligned to the evolving market, that drive profitable business growth and long-term partnership.
  • Be the commercial expert and feedback key environmental knowledge, market intelligence and sales opportunities to the DS LT and commercial organisation.
  • Understand market trends with focus on changes in funding, service delivery and future enabling technology.
Required Education and/or Experience:
  • Driven by results performance & delivering excellence in the job through strong project management skills, process-oriented work and commercial capability.
  • Excellent working knowledge of NHS/Private Sector procurement, and detailed knowledge of at least 1 national framework.
  • Proven ability to negotiate value based and product led contracts.
  • Proven track record in engaging with & influencing senior C suite stakeholders at both an internal and external level. (Director level and above).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to drive customer-centric value-driven approach managing complexity, influencing and collaborating in a global, matrixed environment to achieve business objectives.
  • Ability to understand business strategy and coach the transition to translate it into actionable plans, coupled with high execution focus and exceptional planning skills.
  • Strong passion and track record for innovation & will to make things happen & deliver.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in local language(s) and English; effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Data analysis skills and ability to draw actionable conclusions.
  • Creative divergent thinking, problem solving skills, inclusive thinking.
  • University degree in business administration, marketing & communications, hospital management, life science, public administration or related fields or studies would be preferable but not essential.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proven communication, presentation and negotiations skills.
  • Excellent understanding of the UK Healthcare System, procurement providers and the strategy of the Future operating model its structure and priorities.
  • Understanding of health economic principles and extensive knowledge of the UK medical devices industry.
  • IT literate – ability to analyse and present information using appropriate IT resources.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data, highly numerate.
