The National Wealth Fund mobilises trusted sector insights and investment expertise to unlock billions in private finance for projects across the United Kingdom.

We are seeking skilled and results‑oriented individuals to help build the NWF into an industry‑leading institution.

Job Purpose

Mandatory 6‑month secondment based in Leeds (2 days a week); the role will report to the National Wealth Fund on a fixed‑term basis (August 2026 – December 2026).

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key public‑sector stakeholders to influence policy developments and support effective use of public funds.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop and deliver investment programmes in discrete sectors supporting the Government’s Industrial Strategy, clean energy and growth missions.
  • Lead work on discrete cross‑cutting policy issues; produce policy papers and thought‑leadership pieces to inform the NWF Executive Committee and Board.
  • Spot key issues, risks and opportunities in policy areas and recommend actionable solutions across the organisation.
  • Contribute to strategy development for sectors aligned with the NWF strategy, ensuring appropriate pathways for investment.
  • Appraise individual investment proposals against strategic objectives and support due‑diligence processes with deal teams.
  • Draft and contribute to Investment Committee papers and brief senior colleagues through written and verbal briefings.
  • Support policy and strategy function integration across the NWF, including working with the Energy Storage sector to develop financing solutions.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Experience Requirements
  • Experience in a policy role, preferably within government departments.
  • Proven ability to lead or influence policy change and deliver projects or initiatives in partnership with government.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship building across senior and external partners.
  • Self‑starter with initiative and innovative approach to solutions.
  • Effective decision‑maker comfortable with incomplete information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a wide range of senior and external colleagues.

Desirable Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience in a Government Department, Local Authority or Devolved Administration with interests in energy security and net zero.
  • Familiarity with clean energy sectors or experience in a policy or investment‑focused role.
