Joining our Rod and Bar Mill team as a Shift Manager, you will be responsible for directing manufacturing operations safely within one of our Hot Rolling Mills. You will need to make efficient use of your available resources to ensure that our production targets are met. You will also work closely with your colleagues in the production management team, so that we are getting the best out of our processes. You will be an experienced manager, ideally with a background in production and manufacturing. Over the years, you will have developed practical expertise in production, but most importantly, a passion to lead and develop teams. You will be able to identify training needs, as well as provide support and coaching to your team.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and coordinate a multi-disciplined team of mechanical and electrical craftsmen, quality control, and production operatives.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, conducting safety tours, audits, and investigations to maintain the highest safety practices in line with company policies.
  • Manage and supervise daily operations, including production activities, material flow, inventory, and adherence to production schedules.
  • Monitor and control shift resources, including overtime, manpower, and material usage, to optimize cost and productivity.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, driving Total Quality Management initiatives and performance enhancement.

You will be joining a recycling company; we recycle scrap metal into new steel products. We're the largest producer of reinforcing steel in the UK and one of the largest metal recyclers, too. We're passionate about the circular economy and working towards our decarbonisation pathway.
