Job Overview

The Director of Business Excellence is a strategic leadership role within Supply Chain & Operations (SC&O), responsible for designing, deploying, and continuously improving an end‑to‑end operational excellence framework across DePuy Synthes. This leader will define internal performance standards, benchmark capabilities against industry leaders, and drive measurable, sustainable improvements in supply chain performance. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape how operational excellence is defined, measured, and executed across a global MedTech organization. You will partner closely with site leaders, supply chain functions, and cross‑functional stakeholders to build capabilities, accelerate continuous improvement, and deliver quantifiable business impact that supports growth, cost competitiveness, and patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a comprehensive SC&O Business Excellence framework, including standards, governance, tools, and methodologies aligned to enterprise strategy.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and maturity models to assess operational performance and drive accountability across sites and functions.
  • Benchmark internal processes, capabilities, and performance against industry standards to identify gaps and opportunities for competitive advantage.
  • Partner with manufacturing, planning, procurement, logistics, and quality teams to deploy operational excellence capabilities and best practices.
  • Lead targeted continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, process optimization) to deliver measurable impact on cost, service, quality, and working capital.
  • Establish a structured pipeline of improvement opportunities, prioritising initiatives based on business value, feasibility, and strategic alignment.
  • Build and scale organisational capabilities through training, coaching, and change management to embed a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Drive data‑driven decision‑making by leveraging analytics, performance dashboards, and reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to translate business strategy into actionable operational roadmaps and execution plans.
  • Ensure consistency, standardisation, and scalability of processes across the global supply chain network.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or a related field required.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s in Engineering, Supply Chain, or related discipline) preferred.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in supply chain, operations, or operational excellence roles within a complex, global organisation.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise‑level continuous improvement or business excellence programmes with measurable results.
  • Strong expertise in Lean, Six Sigma, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience developing KPIs, performance management systems, and benchmarking frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence senior stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience leveraging data to drive decisions and business outcomes.

  • Travel: Up to 25% domestic and international travel required.
  • Certifications: Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
