5S Recruitment is supporting a well-established, community-led organisation operating within a regulated sporting environment, seeking a hands-on, qualified Management Accountant / Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function. This is a senior, trusted role, reporting directly into Group Finance leadership and working closely with the local executive team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring financial control, compliance, and long-term sustainability. This position suits someone comfortable operating across strategic reporting and day-to-day financial delivery in a fast-paced, visible environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Full responsibility for the day-to-day financial operations of the organisation
- Preparation of monthly management accounts, including commentary and analysis
- Payroll administration, including salaried staff and variable payrolls
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Ownership of annual budgets and cashflow forecasting
- Ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulatory requirements
- Supervision and support of an existing bookkeeper
- Oversight of event-day financial activity, including systems and reconciliations
- Liaison with senior stakeholders, auditors, and external bodies
About You
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA or CIMA)
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Management Accountant, or senior accounting role
- Background spanning practice and industry preferred
- Confident user of Excel and accounting systems (Sage experience advantageous)
- Comfortable being hands-on, from reporting through to transactional finance
- Highly organised, detail-focused, and able to manage competing priorities
- Flexible to support event-day operations as required
- Motivated by contributing to a values-led organisation with strong community roots
