AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain.
You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You will collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. The Decommissioning Technical team is responsible for processing and facilitating large scale legacy Data Center equipment through a liquidation process to ensure that targeted equipment is ready to be removed off premises. Team members will also process large volumes of customer data to ensure that all customer data is sanitized and properly managed.
As part of the Rack Decom team, you will be responsible for:
- Decommissioning and processing of legacy hardware out of the data center facilities
- Adhering to security and safety best practices in the data center
- Unpacking/repacking fragile electronics
- Relocating and moving of large enterprise equipment
- Creating/attaching labels and barcodes
- Hard drive installation, removal and destruction
- Basic Networking hardware removal/installation and clearing of configurations
- Updating progress through a web ticketing system or to a team lead
- Escalating to senior technicians and management as needed/required
Familiarity with basic PC components/hardware: HDD/SSD/Flash/Removable storage media/USB/FireWire/Esata/Ram/CPU/Motherboard/Input-Output devices is required. This is an entry level position and qualified candidates do not require intimate details of software operations or networking protocols. There may be an element of shift based work and physically demanding work required.
Qualifications
- High school or equivalent diploma
- Experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair
- Experience in networking
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure
- Experience working in a colocation data center facility
