What are we looking for?

The Driller Assistant is responsible for assisting the Driller with soil drilling, rock coring, sampling, classifications, in-situ testing, and monitoring well installation.

What you'll do:

  • Assist Driller to load / unload augers and assemble / disassemble augers
  • Prepare tooling and supplies for the day's tasks
  • Assemble / disassemble augers
  • Assist with the location of boring locations
  • Retrieve and log samples
  • Clean / maintain equipment and perform site clean up
  • Perform various drilling activities to obtain boring samples
  • Investigate sub surface conditions
  • Recognise and identify soil and rock types and material classifications
  • Operate drilling equipment at shallow to moderate depths
  • Identify and locate utilities and other site safety concerns
  • Responsible for drill rig transportation
  • Train and direct Drilling Assistants
  • Communicate with Project teams
  • Maintain record log of drilling activities
  • Direct site inquiries from general public to the project team
  • Identify and coordinate daily work schedules at job site
  • Load and unload augers

Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work. Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of relevant experience
  • May require state or local drilling license
  • H.S. Education or Equivalent, preferred
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
  • Requires basic math skills
  • Ability to receive work instructions and follow tasks
  • Must be able to work off shifts and overtime
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required
  • Ability to lift, move, push and pull up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
  • Ability to climb occasionally
