The role

As a Design Engineer – Mechanical and Nuclear Process, you\\\’ll have a role that\\\’s out of the ordinary. You\\\’ll be part of our Nuclear Process Group, a technical authority within Babcock\\\’s Devonport Naval Nuclear sector. You\\\’ll contribute to the design and development of mechanical piping systems that support critical submarine facilities, such as treatment plants and decontamination buildings.

Day-to-day, you\\\’ll act as a lead author on design documentation, support larger infrastructure projects, and provide technical advice to ensure compliance with nuclear regulations and pressure system standards. You\\\’ll work in an agile, collaborative environment that supports career progression and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Leading or working within a team of engineers to plan, organise and deliver design tasks
  • Producing design documentation and supporting assessments
  • Developing and delivering designs through all lifecycle phases in line with legislation
  • Advising on design documentation and compliance with relevant codes and standards
  • Performing and leading quality checks on engineering outputs

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience

  • Experience in mechanical piping, nuclear, chemical or process engineering
  • Knowledge of engineering regulations and standards
  • Understanding of the full design lifecycle
  • Knowledge of pressure systems, CAD, component engineering simulation, system fluid flow analysis, or nuclear plant design is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC in Mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering
