About the role:
Shape the next generation of professional bus drivers — and lead the team that makes it happen. This is a high‑impact leadership role at the heart of our transport operation. You'll own everything that happens inside our Training Centres — from induction through to PCV test pass and on to advanced driver training — while building a motivated, high‑performing team of trainers, examiners and support staff. If you're energised by people development, regulatory excellence, and driving operational improvement, this is the role for you.
What you'll do:
- Lead and develop a team of Driver Trainers, Examiners, Classroom and Type Trainers.
- Plan and manage cost‑effective daily training operations across multiple centres.
- Own KPI performance — time in training, trainer throughput, PCV pass rates.
- Act as the key liaison with DVSA, DVLA and TfL, maintaining full regulatory compliance.
- Manage Delegated Test Centres under licence from the Secretary of State for Transport.
- Ensure CPC records, theory invigilating and licence tracking meet audit standards.
- Collaborate with Operations and Engineering on vehicle availability and retraining plans.
- Use Green Road data to monitor instructor activity and optimise fleet utilisation.
- Conduct performance reviews and build tailored development plans for your team.
- Champion a strong safety culture across all training activities.
What we're looking for:
- Proven experience leading a driver training function, ideally in public transport or a regulated fleet environment.
- Solid understanding of DVSA, DVLA and TfL requirements.
- Strong grasp of PCV licensing standards and CPC compliance obligations.
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Data‑literate — comfortable analysing KPIs and acting on insights.
- Intermediate Excel skills; proficient in Word and email.
- Experience managing performance, sickness, welfare and HR processes.
- Ability to plan ahead in a busy, high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment.
- Up to date on UK/EU legislative changes relevant to the role.
Why this role stands out:
You won't just manage a training function — you'll hold a licence from the Secretary of State for Transport for our Delegated Test Centres, giving you real regulatory authority and accountability. It's a genuinely significant leadership position with scope to shape company‑wide standards.
What you'll get:
- TfL travel pass - free travel across the TfL network for you and a family member (non‑contractual).
- Company pension - employer pension contributions to support your long‑term financial wellbeing.
- Holiday allowance - generous annual leave entitlement to rest and recharge.
- Employee discounts - access to a range of discounts and savings through our employee benefits scheme.
Key behaviours we value:
- Developing self and others.
- Drive for achievement.
- Analytical thinking and decisiveness.
- Leadership and positive approach to change.
- Customer focus and concern for quality.
- Effective teamwork and ownership.
- Business awareness.
- Impact and influence.
- Clear, confident communication.
- Technical and professional expertise.
- Understanding the company's wider mission.
