About 50:50 Parliament

50:50 Parliament is a small, non-partisan campaign charity working to achieve gender parity in the UK Parliament and across all elected bodies. We believe that a truly representative democracy is essential for effective decision-making and public trust, and that women — in all their diversity — must be equally represented wherever power is exercised. Our 50:50 strategy is built around two interconnected pillars: Flood and Fix. Our aim is to flood the system with diverse, talented women candidates via our #AskHerToStand campaign and #SignUpToStand programme and, with partners, fix the system that holds women back. As a small but high-impact charity, we work closely with parliamentarians, political parties, civil society organisations, funders, the media and grassroots supporters to drive lasting change.

Role Purpose

The Campaign Lead will play a critical role in supporting the CEO and wider team to deliver 50:50 Parliament’s mission. The postholder will lead on fundraising to ensure the sustainability of the organisation, while also contributing strategically and operationally to campaigning, data‑led advocacy, events and communications that advance gender parity in politics. This is a senior, outward-facing role requiring strong fundraising expertise alongside excellent communication, relationship-building and project delivery skills. The Campaign Lead will work across the organisation, adopting a flexible and collaborative approach in line with the needs of a small charity. As with many roles in small charities, this position spans several functions. This is a broad role, but not all responsibilities are continuous or time-intensive. A number of the support elements are light‑touch or occasional, with priorities agreed and reviewed regularly to ensure the role is deliverable within a two-day-per-week working pattern.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fundraising and Organisational Sustainability
  • Review, refine and enhance the organisation’s fundraising strategy in collaboration with the CEO.
  • Review and expand the fundraising pipeline, identifying new funding opportunities.
  • Work to diversify income streams, including developing an individual‑giving programme.
  • Draft, submit and manage a high volume of high-quality funding bids for core and project funding.
  • Build, manage and maintain strong relationships with funders and donors.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality reporting to funders in line with grant requirements.
  • Raising Awareness of Gender Imbalance in Politics
    • Work with the Data Officer and wider team to support the collection, analysis and dissemination of data on women’s representation in elected office.
    • Gather and curate qualitative and quantitative evidence demonstrating the barriers women face in progressing in political life.
    • Support the identification of opportunities to raise awareness of these issues through media, digital channels and public-facing outputs.
  • Project and Campaign Delivery
    • Support the CEO and team on the Fix strand of the 50:50 strategy, including advocacy for more inclusive cultures within elected institutions.
    • Contribute to project work relating to candidate selection processes and systemic reform.
  • Events and Communications
    • Support the team to deliver events in line with the Flood and Fix strategy and/or fundraising, including leading on one main event in the year.
    • Help maintain and grow an engaging, impactful and consistent social‑media presence.
    • Support the production of the quarterly newsletter.
    • Proactively solicit content from networks and stakeholders for use across digital channels.
    • Help ensure the website remains clear, current, informative and engaging.
  • Supporting the CEO and Building Networks
    • Support the CEO by deputising at occasional events, meetings and external engagements as required.
    • Support the growth and nurturing of relationships with key stakeholders, partners and supporters across politics, civil society and philanthropy.

    General Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organisation by working collaboratively and flexibly across functions.
    • Adopt an “all hands on deck” approach, particularly in the lead‑up to major events or campaign moments.
    • Uphold the values, mission and non-partisan stance of 50:50 Parliament at all times.

This job description is not exhaustive and may evolve in line with organisational needs. While flexibility is expected, the organisation is committed to respecting boundaries and will not make unreasonable demands.

    Person Specification

    Essential

    • Significant experience in fundraising, including securing grants from trusts, foundations or institutional funders.
    • Proven ability to develop and manage fundraising strategies and pipelines.
    • Excellent written communication skills, with experience of producing compelling funding bids and reports.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
    • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
    • A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
    • Commitment to the values and aims of 50:50 Parliament.

    Desirable

    • Strong understanding of gender equality issues, particularly in relation to politics, representation or power.
    • Experience of working on campaigns, advocacy or public-facing projects.
    • Experience working in a small charity or start-up environment.
    • Knowledge of the UK political system and/or elected institutions.
    • Experience of managing individual giving programmes or donor stewardship.
    • Experience of events planning and delivery.
    • Confidence engaging with media and digital communications.

    Working with Us

We recognise that candidates — particularly women — may be less likely to apply unless they meet every criterion listed. Please view the person specification as a guide rather than a checklist. We warmly welcome applications from candidates who may not meet every requirement but who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills and a strong commitment to our aims. We pride ourselves on being a flexible and supportive organisation, recognising the many roles and responsibilities people hold outside of work. We are open to alternative working patterns, including term-time only arrangements, and are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive working environment.
