Software Development Manager

As the Software Development Manager, you will lead the EDO Content Delivery team.

This is a “Player / Coach” role, where you will both lead and contribute hands‑on to the overall success of the team.

You will collaborate closely with peers in EDO, ITG and Global business partners to enable, transform and optimize the delivery of our software applications and data solutions, this includes applications such as our product reference data management application, our client‑facing data application used for marketing/publishing data automation to drive investment strategies to the market that drive strategic growth for Capital Group.

You will be responsible for leading a global team of high‑performing associates and contractors.

Your role includes resource planning and prioritization, associate talent development and scalable vendor management.

As a player/coach you will allocate work, manage performance and develop the team to build innovative, scalable, and resilient software and data solutions that empower our global Operating Groups.

Your role will ensure that the applications we product meet and exceed the expectations of our business users, from the design of an intuitive front‑end, the data integration and schema development of a robust back end and set of development frameworks.

You will foster a culture where associates feel valued, engaged, and able to connect their contributions to Capital Group’s broader strategic priorities.

  • Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage partnerships with business leaders, stakeholders, and IT to develop and promote our content delivery data solutions.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into technical solutions.
  • As a manager, impact the product, architecture, software design and engineering.
  • With a focus on intuitive front‑end creation, robust backend frameworks and strong data design.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the team using industry best practices in engineering, data and AI.
  • Set engineering standards, contribute directly to complex code and problem solving.
  • Guide the team of individual contributors by setting expectations and monitoring their progress.
  • Manage a globally dispersed team (primarily with associates in Southern California and contractors in X, Y, Z) and contribute input to scale a global organization through resourcing/location strategy.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven track record delivering solutions in complex organizations.
  • Experience with AWS, Databricks, DBT, Py Spark, React, Java Script, Terraform, etc.
  • Fast learner, thrives in ambiguity, translates vision into product scope.
  • Passion for automation and user experience innovation.
  • Builds high‑performing teams, leverages staff for efficiency.
  • Experience developing and coaching associates to meet business goals.
  • Experience with AI/ML/Gen AI/LLM is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital’s annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
