As a pioneering tech company, we specialise in developing competitive socialising equipment. Our mission is to transform traditional activities, such as darts, golf, and more into digitally enhanced experiences that bring people together in fun and engaging ways.

Purpose of the Role: We are seeking an experienced Cloud Developer to build and evolve the products and offerings that power 501’s platform. You will work on our customer-facing web application (the 501 Hub), creating and implementing REST APIs and React-based user interfaces, as well as internal tooling and back-end services that keep our venues running globally. You will collaborate closely with Delivery Managers, Product Owners, QA, and DevOps, across the full development lifecycle, contributing across the full stack from front-end UI through server-side logic to cloud infrastructure and data access.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Application Development
    • Collaborate with Product Owners, Developers, customers, and end users to identify requirements
    • Collaborate with Product Owners to turn user stories and acceptance criteria into working features
    • Build and maintain the 501 Hub web application using React and TypeScript
    • Design and implement RESTful APIs consumed by web, Android, and in-venue hardware clients
    • Develop secure, well-tested server-side logic and database access layers
    • Build additional cloud offerings as required, internally and customer facing
    • Build internal tooling and utilities using appropriate technologies
    • Understand, deploy, and integrate with different cloud platforms and resources
    • Collaborate with DevOps to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and containerised deployments
    • Contribute to monitoring and observability solutions
    • Understand and apply cloud security best practices
  • Quality, Testing & Documentation
    • Write automated tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) for business logic and critical paths
    • Create and maintain clear, modular code
    • Participate in code review, providing and receiving constructive feedback
    • Perform exploratory testing and participate in QA review cycles
    • Report development progress and surface blockers early
    • Create and maintain technical documentation and in-code commentary
    • Promote knowledge sharing through code review and internal demos
    • Troubleshoot production issues and participate in on-call rotation as needed
    • Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimisations for smooth and efficient cloud offerings
    • Stay current with relevant cloud development practices and tooling
    • Contribute to technical discussions on architecture, tooling, and process improvements

Core Skills: The ‘how’ we fulfil our role is just as important as the ‘what’. The following skills and behaviours are essential for this role:

  • Back-End & APIs: Solid experience building and consuming RESTful APIs. Comfortable with Node.js or equivalent server-side runtimes. Understanding of authentication patterns
  • Databases: Working knowledge of relational databases. Comfortable writing queries, designing schemas, and handling migrations
  • Cloud Platforms: Practical experience deploying and integrating with cloud infrastructure and resources
  • Security-minded: Awareness of OWASP top-10, data protection obligations (GDPR), and secure coding practices
  • Version Control & Workflow: Proficient with Git and team-based workflows (pull requests, branching strategies)
  • Agile Practices: Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum teams and general SDLC processes and practices
  • Communication: Clear, influential, persuasive communicator; able to articulate technical decisions to both technical and non-technical colleagues, at all levels
  • Collaboration: Build and maintain trust. Work well as part of a team and individually
  • Work Management: Establish estimates and deadlines, execute on them, recognise impact of key issues, communicate progress and challenges
  • Personal Development: Genuine curiosity about new technologies, platforms, and ways of working
