About the job
To carry out street cleansing throughout the County Borough to raise standards of communities and open spaces. Reporting to either Team Leader or Charge Hand to discuss scheduled work programmes and forward work programme.
Please note: you will be required to be available to work within any departments within neighbourhood services as priorities require. This may be Waste, Highways, street cleansing or cemeteries and could be on a full range of duties commensurate with the grade.
Main Tasks
- Litter pick where needed
- Carry out environmental projects throughout the town, cutting back vegetation, clearing access paths.
- Linking with the biodiversity teams on joined environmental enhancement projects.
- Cleanse all allocated areas to A grade LEAMS standard.
- Recycle waste at source using correct allocated bags.
- Remove drug paraphernalia and syringes safely and keep records.
- Be able to use all related machinery during the role (e.g., jet washer, green machine applied sweeper, blower, strimmer, mechanical sweeper).
- Report/investigate incidents of dumping/fly tipping/littering, reporting back to the lead-hand.
- Painting of litter bins, posts, railings etc. as required.
- Removal of fly tipped materials when requested.
- Remove litter from trunk roads.
- Remove dog fouling from pavements.
- Remove graffiti.
- Remove dead animals & transport to vets for checks.
- Collection of leaves during seasonal requirements.
- Emptying of litter and dog fouling bins.
- Carry out vehicle checks daily and report defects in accordance with fleet guidelines.
- Split waste bags at HWRC to ensure recycled waste is sorted.
- Assist with winter maintenance operations.
- Trunk road cleansing as and when required.
- In accordance with ASD requirements assist when requested with Waste, Highways, Parks or Cemeteries operations.
- Undertake relevant training when required.
Short term objectives
Provide maintenance support for Street Cleansing department in achieving objectives within the council's priorities. Responsible to the Team Leader. Assist within all departments within neighbourhood Services.
Long term objectives
To carry out street cleansing throughout the County Borough to raise standards of communities and open spaces. Assist in the resilience of neighbourhood services by being adaptable and able to work across departmental boundaries.
