This is a vital service that showcases the council in the best light as first impressions are everything. Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the council's offices for elected officials, staff, visitors, and members of the public ensures the right impression and helps to keep staff safe. The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team to help maintain flagship buildings and be at the forefront of cleaning innovation and improvement. This post is vital in ensuring day-to-day operations, events, and training courses can take place without hindrance in a clean and safe environment.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide planned, routine, and periodic cleaning services that reflect the property type, usage, and hours of operation.
- Ensure all allocated areas are cleaned and maintained to the appropriate standard.
- Minimise disruption to building users whilst performing duties.
- Take cognisance of all safe working practices and clean according to specifications such as chemical dilution, colour-coded cleaning equipment, COSHH, and Chemical data sheets.
- Ensure there are adequate stock levels within the building and cleaning cupboards, reporting any shortages to line management immediately.
- Ensure all pre-user checks of equipment and machinery are carried out before use, only operating equipment in accordance with manufacturers' instructions, reporting any defects to line management immediately.
- Report any building-related defects to line management immediately for onward reporting to the facilities management help desk, working with the cleaning supervisor to resolve issues in the delivery of the cleaning service.
- Ensure attendance records are completed and immediately report any sickness and unplanned absence to the supervisor in advance of the shift.
- Attend mandatory (CoSHH, Health and Safety, BICSc) and operator refresher training, as required, and aim to achieve the British Cleaning Services Certificate as a minimum qualification.
- Ensure that the approved uniform supplied by the employer is clean and worn at all times.
- Undertake any additional duties in order to maintain and improve the cleaning services within Southwark council premises.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Knowledge of cleaning equipment and experience of using these in a commercial environment.
- Ability to demonstrate the cleaning industry colour coding for mops and cloths.
- Awareness of or hold the British Institute of Cleaning Services (BICs) qualification certificate.
- Demonstrable cleaning experience.
- Excellent customer care, communication, and team working skills.
- Have a can-do attitude and ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Ability to work unsupervised and be able to make cleaning and work-related decisions.
- Competent in the use of mechanical cleaning equipment, awareness of CoSHH and chemical data sheets.
