Purpose of post
As an experienced Nursery Chef/Cook you must be organised, efficient and be able to manage the diverse catering requirements effectively; ensure conformance to all food handling, environmental and health regulations. You will work in consultation with the Nursery Manager, be responsible for the planning and provision of healthy and tasty meals for children under 5 years old, making sure each meal is age appropriate while working with fresh ingredients, taking account of any special dietary requirements. You must also be able to meet all the different dietary requirements, and be aware of the various cultural events during the year which may require additional planning and preparation of special meals.

Qualifications
L2 Food and Hygiene certificate *Level 2 NVQ Food Processing and Cooking

Experienced in busy kitchens

Honest, Punctual and reliable

Highly creative

Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety & Food Hygiene

Works well under pressure

The ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Duties and Responsibilities

Catering for 42 nursery children aged 6 weeks to 5 years

With Nursery manager prepare Spring, Summer and Winter menu, home made healthy foods

Follow a four weekly menu system cooking from fresh produce and you may be required to provide meals for specific dietary requirements

To identify and follow the best practice within the kitchen

Sterilise all work surface and sink on entering and leaving the kitchen each day

Sweep and mop the floor before leaving kitchen

Taking temperature of both fridge/freezer morning and afternoon

Labelling all food clearly ie prepared/use by dates

Checking all kitchen equipment keeping a daily record and reporting any repairs

To ensure the smooth running of the kitchen, making sure it is maintained and safe

To ensure each individual child has their dietary needs met, helping to provide incredible service to each family, so that they get what they want, creating a friendly relationship with all parents

To ensure the food and drink offered to the children is of the highest standard, according to nursery policy

Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen in accordance with Environmental Health requirements and legislation

Ensure that all individual dietary requirements are catered for in line with parental guidance

Control, storage and rotation of kitchen stock

Collect/clean crockery, pots, pans and cutlery using the Nursery dishwasher

To work as part of a team

To ensure confidentiality at all times

To follow and implement all the policies and procedures set out by the nursery

Complete bitesize training (allergens, COSH, H&S and more)

Responsible to
Nursery Manager/ Deputy Manager/ Nursery Owner

Health and Safety Responsibilities

Assit by reporting to the Nursery Manager any hazard, accident, damage or defect in order that appropriate and quick action may be undertaken
