5 Pump Court is a progressive, diverse multi-disciplinary set based in Middle Temple with specialist practice groups in civil, family and criminal law. We are seeking a new Chambers Director to oversee our business and operations. This is a varied and interesting role, including responsibility for managing a small but effective staff team; shaping the practices of 50 barristers and pupils; developing Chambers' business, brand and operations; and overseeing Chambers' finances, governance, recruitment, training and marketing. It is a role with both strategic and operational responsibilities, and the Chambers Director works closely with the Head of Chambers and Management Committee to propose and implement strategy for development of Chambers. The successful candidate will need a good understanding of operational issues and to ensure that Chambers meets its regulatory and compliance requirements. Experience of working within a regulated profession would be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Manage a small but effective staff team.
- Shape the practices of 50 barristers and pupils.
- Develop Chambers' business, brand and operations; oversee finances, governance, recruitment, training and marketing.
- Contribute to strategic direction with the Head of Chambers and Management Committee.
- Ensure regulatory and compliance requirements are met.
- Lead marketing and business development; manage key clients and attract new clients; develop marketing plans and events; collaborate with staff to identify new opportunities.
- Act as a first point of contact for external organisations, contractors, and the landlord; build and maintain networks with other sets, the Inns, the Bar Council and the BSB.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with key suppliers.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in a leadership/management role within a law-related or regulated profession is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of operational issues, governance, and compliance.
- Proven ability to develop business and marketing strategies; experience in client relationship management.
- Ability to build networks and work with internal staff and external partners.
Benefits and Details
We offer a competitive salary circa £100,000. The Chambers Director has an office within Chambers, with the option to work from home regularly if required.
