4way Consulting is a design and engineering consultancy specialising in the delivery of intelligent transport systems (ITS), traffic signals and road lighting services in both the strategic and urban road sectors. Our range of services includes ITS infrastructure design, ITS operational consultancy, road lighting consultancy and design, traffic signals consultancy and design, motorway and all-purpose trunk road development, smart cities consultancy and design, technology implementation, management and commissioning, business strategy, feasibility studies and value management.

Consistently ranked in the top ten of ITS consultancies in the annual CIHT Consultants Directory, we are now seeking to propel 4way to new heights and are looking for high calibre individuals at all levels to join us on our journey.
Role: Design Engineer, who could be based at any one of a number of our offices nationwide (with opportunities for project roles on site) or adopt an agile/flexible working approach and be home based. You will act within part of design teams delivering ITS infrastructure design with responsibility for ensuring the highest levels of quality in your project deliverables.
Attributes and experience:
- Degree qualified with a relevant engineering discipline, with 3 years’ relevant experience, or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering with 5 years’ relevant experience.
- Good working knowledge of National Highways DMRB, MCHW and Operational Technology Specifications Library - OTSL.
- Working within teams designing and/or installing roadside technology and motorway communications infrastructure.
- Use and application of the DMRB and the MCHW, including writing specification for highway works (SHW) contract specific appendices.
- Skilled in Autocad supporting the production of roadside technology designs.
- Knowledge of CDM 2015, health & safety management, quality and environmental standards.
- Knowledge of working in a BIM/digital design project environment.
- Knowledge and awareness of other multidisciplinary design workstreams and integration of the highway’s technology infrastructure.
- Ability to communicate effectively and mentor colleagues in the application of engineering principles to highways technology design.
- BS 7671, ‘Requirements for Electrical Installations’ (desirable).
