We’re looking for a Lighting Prep Lead to take ownership of the day-to-day operations, organisation, and quality standards within our Lighting Prep department. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone with strong technical expertise in lighting equipment who thrives on mentoring a team, driving efficiency, and upholding the highest health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the Lighting Prep team, providing guidance and support.
- Allocate tasks, review output, and ensure all equipment is prepared accurately and on time.
- Pull, collate, clean, test, and troubleshoot lighting and electronic equipment.
- Prepare, scan, and allocate equipment for projects and job requirements.
- Carry out routine maintenance and repairs to ensure equipment meets operational and safety standards.
- Monitor consumables and spare parts, ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained.
- Maintain accurate records, including paperwork, timesheets, and job documentation.
- Support wider warehouse operations, including loading and unloading when required.
- Promote a culture of quality, safety, and sustainability across the department.
- Communicate professionally with colleagues, clients, and internal departments.
About you
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience working with professional entertainment or theatrical lighting equipment, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and prep work.
- Strong troubleshooting, repair, and electronics skills.
- Excellent manual dexterity and visual acuity for detailed inspection and testing.
- At least 1–2 years’ experience supervising or coordinating a small technical team.
- Proven experience mentoring junior technicians and guiding teams on standards and workflows.
- Comfortable using computer systems and asset management software.
- Clear written and spoken English for communication and record-keeping.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive, team-oriented attitude with excellent customer service skills.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 25kg and standing for extended periods in an active warehouse environment.
- Formal training in electrical or electronics disciplines, or manufacturer-specific lighting training (e.g. moving lights), is desirable.
- Willing and able to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Ability and willingness to travel to Blackburn initially, prior to the relocation of the warehouse to Hertford.
