Are you a qualified Gas Engineer looking to move into commercial-focused work with a genuinely established, growing contractor? We're recruiting on behalf of our client — a multi-award-winning mechanical & electrical (M&E) contractor headquartered in Atherton, Manchester — for an experienced Gas Engineer to join their facilities maintenance team, working across a varied portfolio of commercial sites throughout the North West.
This is a permanent role with a company van, fuel card, and a salary of £42,000 — working for a business that delivers 95% of its work through its own in-house engineers rather than subcontractors, and is on track for £8 million turnover this year.
About the Business
Our client combines the resources of a large contractor with the personal approach of a close-knit team. They're Gas Safe, NICEIC and ISO 9001 accredited, and deliver integrated M&E and facilities maintenance solutions across education, hospitality, commercial property, housing and manufacturing — from planned maintenance contracts through to full installs, including renewable technologies like heat pumps and solar PV.
The Role
This is a commercial and facilities maintenance role — not domestic. You'll be working across a varied portfolio of commercial sites, including:
- Installing, servicing and repairing commercial gas appliances and heating systems, including boilers, plant rooms and commercial hot water systems, across schools, hospitality venues and commercial premises.
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown callouts as part of ongoing facilities management contracts.
- Performing routine inspections, diagnostics and fault-finding, ensuring all work meets Gas Safe regulations and current safety standards.
- Completing accurate service reports, compliance certificates and job documentation for each site visit.
- Liaising directly with site teams and clients, explaining issues and solutions clearly and professionally.
- Working alongside the wider M&E team, with exposure to related renewable and heat pump installation work where required.
What You'll Need
- Gas Safe registration (commercial ticket desirable — e.g. CODNCO1/CCN1, ICPN1, CIGA1, CORT1, CDGA1).
- Proven experience in commercial gas engineering.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability.
- A full UK driving licence.
- A professional, clear communication style with clients and site teams.
What's on Offer
- £42,000 salary.
- Company van and fuel card.
- Company pension.
- Permanent, full-time position.
- North West coverage — no long-distance travel.
- The backing of a well-established, growing M&E contractor with a strong reputation and in-house culture.
