A well-established and growing construction and civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its commercial team based in Accrington. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and expanding contractor delivering projects across a range of sectors. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing competitive tenders and supporting the business in securing new work.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for a range of construction and civil engineering projects.
- Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
- Carry out detailed take-offs and cost analysis for labour, materials and plant.
- Source and assess subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Liaise with internal teams including commercial, operational and project delivery teams to ensure accurate pricing.
- Identify risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions during the tender process.
- Attend pre-tender meetings and site visits where required.
- Assist in preparing tender documentation and bid submissions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Support the handover of successful tenders to the project delivery team.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as an Estimator within the construction or civil engineering sector.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials and project costing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience producing detailed cost breakdowns and tender submissions.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
- Experience working on industrial, infrastructure, or specialist contracting projects.
- Knowledge of NEC or JCT contracts.
- Degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar.
