Job Description: NOC / Firewall Engineer - Network Security | Leeds / Hybrid | £35-50k DOE
Hours: 8am - 4.30pm / 9.30am - 6pm. Following probation, 1 week in 4 you will be required to be on call 6pm - 8am (home based) where you will receive additional remuneration + overtime. This includes weekends.
About the Role: Join a 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) as a NOC/Firewall Engineer, where you’ll be the frontline defender of client network security. This hands-on role is perfect for a detail-oriented engineer who thrives on troubleshooting firewalls, optimising policies, and resolving critical incidents across Check Point, Fortinet, and Palo Alto environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Firewall Management: Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot firewalls (rules, NAT, VPNs) for global clients.
- Incident Response: Investigate alerts, resolve connectivity/performance issues, and escalate per SLAs.
- Security Policies: Implement and audit firewall rulesets to mitigate risks.
- Collaboration: Work with SOC and engineering teams to resolve complex threats.
- Documentation: Log changes/actions in ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow) and update clients.
- Onboarding: Integrate new client devices into our managed services platform.
Tech You’ll Work With:
- Firewalls: Check Point (R80.x), Fortinet (FortiGate), Palo Alto (PAN-OS).
- Networking: TCP/IP, VPNs, VLANs, BGP/OSPF, DNS.
- Cloud: AWS/Azure security (optional but desirable).
- Tools: Panorama, FortiManager, Wireshark, Splunk.
Skills & Experience:
- Must Have: 2-4+ years in firewall/network operations (NOC, MSP, or enterprise). Expertise in Check Point/Fortinet/Palo Alto (one or more). Strong grasp of routing, NAT, and traffic flow analysis. Customer-facing support experience.
- Nice-to-Have: Certifications: CCSA, PCNSE, NSE4/5. Scripting (Python/Bash) or automation (Ansible, Terraform). ITIL/cloud security knowledge.
