4Recruitment Services are seeking to recruit a Personal Advisor (Leaving Care Services) for our client based in Northampton. The Leaving Care Service provides a statutory service to young people aged between 16-25 years who have been, or are Looked After by the local authority. The Leaving Care Team is committed to ensuring young people:

  • Prepared and supported to live independently
  • Have improved access to education, employment and training
  • Experience stability in their lives, and feel safe and secure
  • Receive improved access to health support
  • Achieve financial stability

The Personal Advisor will play a key role in supporting young people with their transition to adulthood and assist them to live an independent life in their community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Lead and coordinate service provision around the needs of young people working with issues like resilience, self-esteem, and confidence building, including being case responsible for young people aged 18+.
  • Participate in the provision of appropriate programmes for young people leaving care, in conjunction with other Directorate staff and agencies, to assist their transition to adulthood, with a focus on moving from care to independent living.
  • Under supervision of a Practice Manager, undertake needs assessments for young people, developing Pathway Plans to help plan their transition to adult life, setting realistic targets and goals.
  • Collaborate with other Personal Advisers to plan and deliver training sessions on the Daily Living Project, ensuring young people receive information and skills to promote independent living.
  • Participate in duty systems and drop-in sessions to ensure availability of support.
  • Maintain regular contact with young people, providing consistent and reliable advice and support through meetings, home visits, education establishments, accommodation provision, prisons, and courts.
  • Empathetically challenge young people to avoid being without employment, education, or training, through liaison and joint working with independent and third sector providers.
  • Provide practical advice on budget management and use professional networks to assist in supporting young people.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • Substantial experience of working with children and young people up to the age of 21 and 25 if they are in higher education in a voluntary or Professional setting.
  • Have worked successfully in achieving outcomes for young people under supervision.
  • Knowledge of the legislation concerning looked after children and the responsibilities of Local Authorities towards Care leavers. Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 Children Act 1989.
  • Knowledge to advise young people around budgeting, and to be financially accountable where appropriate.
  • Knowledge of suitable education, training and employment opportunities for care leavers and how to engage young people in securing this type of opportunity or to learn what needs to be done.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the safeguarding agenda for children and vulnerable adults. Sexual exploitation, gangs, substance misuse, issues for young parents, Prevent agenda.
  • Knowledge of the legislation and practice in relation to unaccompanied asylum seeking children and care leavers.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
