Pay Rates: £12.71 - £14.57 per hour
Information the Role
We are seeking a reliable, practical, and proactive Caretaker to take responsibility for the day-to-day management and upkeep of our school site. You will play a key role in ensuring the premises are safe, secure, clean, and well maintained, supporting the smooth running of the school for staff and pupils. This is a hands-on role requiring initiative, flexibility, and a strong sense of responsibility, including periods of lone working.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Security
- Open and secure school buildings daily
- Carry out regular site inspections, including weather-related checks
- Respond to emergencies and take appropriate action
- Support site security and risk assessments
- Maintenance & Grounds
- Undertake minor repairs, decorating, and general maintenance
- Carry out basic groundskeeping (litter picking, sweeping, gritting, clearing pathways and car parks)
- Monitor site condition and report or address hazards promptly
- Assist with refurbishment and improvement works
- Ensure equipment is safe, maintained, and compliant
- Cleaning & Contractors
- Support and supervise the cleaning team, including rotas
- Carry out cleaning duties when required
- Oversee contractors on site, ensuring compliance with school procedures
- Health & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety policies
- Carry out routine safety checks (fire, electrical, asbestos, etc.)
- Maintain accurate records and logs
- Identify and report hazards or unsafe equipment immediately
- Porterage & Events
- Move furniture and equipment as required
- Support setup for school events and activities
- Safeguarding
- Follow all safeguarding policies and procedures
- Report concerns appropriately
- Attend required safeguarding and training sessions
Essential Requirements:
- Right to Live & Work in the UK
- Current Enhanced DBS Check Adult & Children Checks
- A practical, hands-on approach to maintenance and site management
- Awareness of health and safety requirements
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities
- Reliability, initiative, and attention to detail
- Willingness to support the wider school community
