Insurance Officer
Location: East London
Contract: Temporary/Interim
PAYE: £158.40 per day
Limited/Umbrella: £208.30 per day
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Insurance Officer to join a Council’s Risk and Insurance Team. The successful candidate will support the management of the Council’s insurance portfolio and provide an effective insurance service across the Council and its partner organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and submit routine insurance claims to external insurers.
- Process claims covering motor, public liability, employers’ liability and property insurance.
- Negotiate property and liability claims within agreed handling arrangements.
- Assist with investigating claims, including those managed through internal resources.
- Liaise with insurers, solicitors, loss adjusters and internal teams.
- Prepare reports, returns and supporting evidence for insurers and courts.
- Respond to correspondence, telephone calls and enquiries.
- Maintain compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and Council policies.
Essential Experience
- Experience within non-life insurance, particularly motor, public liability, employers’ liability and property claims.
- Strong claims negotiation and settlement experience.
- Good knowledge of insurance policy cover and liability.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to analyse information and present clear, well-reasoned conclusions.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines while maintaining confidentiality.
Desirable
- Experience working within a Local Authority insurance team or similar environment.
- Part-qualified Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) or equivalent.
- Experience using JCAD LACHS or similar claims management systems.
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently within established procedures, use initiative when dealing with day-to-day issues and ensure performance standards are met in line with Council policies and regulatory requirements.
