Are you an experienced engineering leader with a passion for maritime infrastructure? We are seeking a Head of Engineering to oversee harbour repairs exceeding £100 million over the next decade, ensuring the efficient, safe, and effective maintenance of the City Docks. This role will initially be a 6 month contract with potential permanent opportunities if of interest.

You will be responsible for:

  • Develop and implement a strategic approach to harbour repairs and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Expert guidance on engineering and dredging matters, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations, EMAS/ISO14001 standards, and all relevant legislation.
  • Lead the planning, delivery, and management of capital programmes, ensuring the docks remain operational, sustainable, and fit for the future.
  • Budget management.
  • Promote, plan, and organise engineering works in alignment with the Harbour Act/Order, Byelaws, and policies.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven leadership experience in engineering, maritime infrastructure, or harbour maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of dredging, dock engineering, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience and skills in mechanical/hydraulic/marine/electrical maintenance.
  • Experience managing large-scale capital programmes and multi-million-pound budgets.
  • Ideally Health and Safety Certification such as NEBOSH.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Commitment to sustainability, ensuring environmental best practices are embedded in all projects.
