The Opportunity:
My client is looking to appoint an experienced Highway Engineering Team Lead – Associate to support the continued growth of their expanding highways engineering division. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious highways professional looking to step into a senior leadership role within a fast-growing and highly respected consultancy environment. You’ll take ownership of a busy and technically diverse highways team, leading the delivery of complex infrastructure schemes while playing a key role in business development, team growth, client management, and strategic direction. This position offers genuine autonomy, clear progression opportunities, and the chance to influence the future direction of an expanding highways capability within the business.
The Role:
- Lead and manage a highways engineering team delivering complex infrastructure schemes
- Oversee the delivery of S278, S38, and S184 highway projects
- Provide pre-planning highway engineering advice to clients and internal teams
- Manage day-to-day team resource and project delivery
- Prepare fee proposals, manage project budgets, and identify additional fee opportunities
- Ensure projects are delivered efficiently, commercially, and to a high technical standard
- Review and maintain quality of highway drawing outputs and technical submissions
- Support transport planning teams with technical highways advice
- Line manage, mentor, and develop highways engineering staff
- Attend client meetings and contribute to business development activities
- Identify opportunities to improve team processes, efficiency, and project delivery

About You:
- Degree or HND qualified in Civil Engineering
- Member of ICE, CIHT, or similar professional institution
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred
- Strong consultancy background within highways engineering
- Proven experience delivering S278 and highway infrastructure schemes
- Experience managing teams, resources, and project budgets
- Commercially aware with strong client-facing skills
- Organised, proactive, and confident leading technical teams
- Passionate about mentoring and developing engineers
