4c Executive are representing a privately owned, family-run industrial business with deep roots in innovation, integrity, and customer partnership as they seek to appoint a new Finance Director. Our client has more than 200 years of proud heritage and has grown from its origins in chemical manufacturing into a global enterprise operating across chemicals, pigments, and construction products.

The Finance Director will be a key member of the Roads & Construction Divisional Management Board, reporting directly to the Roads & Construction Managing Director. The role combines full accountability for financial control, reporting, and governance with a strong mandate to provide strategic insight, drive performance, and shape the division's future. This is a senior leadership position that goes beyond control and reporting: the successful candidate will actively partner with the MD and divisional leadership team to deliver growth, improve profitability, modernise systems, and support long-term planning.

The Finance Director will be required to have the following skills and experience:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Significant senior finance leadership experience in a complex, large organisation with responsibility for developing and implementing financial strategy which delivers sustainable, profitable growth.
  • Demonstrable experience of partnering with Boards and Managing Directors, providing financial insight to influence strategy and decision-making.
  • Proven ability to manage risk registers, with strong risk management and mitigation planning skills.
  • Excellent commercial acumen, with clear ability to analyse margins, costs, capital allocation, and drive performance improvement.
  • Experience of managing external relationships such as auditors, banks, tax advisors, insurers and regulators.
  • Demonstrable success in modernising systems and processes, ideally with ERP exposure.
  • Proven experience developing and leading multi-site finance teams.
