As we continue our journey towards a zero-emission fleet and prepare for the evolving transport landscape, we’re looking for an experienced and inspiring Head of Engineering to lead our engineering operation across Yorkshire.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for multiple depots, engineering teams, and a diverse fleet.
You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, reliability and operational excellence, while helping to deliver one of the region’s most significant engineering transformation programmes as we transition to electric vehicles.
What You’ll Be Doing Lead and develop engineering teams across multiple depots, creating a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
Drive engineering performance, ensuring high levels of fleet availability, reliability and compliance.
Support the delivery of the regional engineering strategy and key business objectives.
Lead engineering readiness for the introduction and operation of electric bus fleets, including depot preparation, charging infrastructure and workforce capability development.
Ensure compliance with all operator licence obligations, DVSA requirements, health and safety legislation and company policies.
Monitor and improve key engineering KPIs, including vehicle availability, MOT performance, staff safety and cost efficiency.
Develop strong relationships with operational teams, suppliers, manufacturers, trade unions, local authorities and regulatory bodies.
Support engineering and depot teams through operational, technological and organisational change.
Build future engineering capability, ensuring teams are equipped to maintain both conventional and zero-emission fleets.
What We Need A relevant engineering qualification in vehicle maintenance, automotive engineering or a related discipline.
Significant experience leading engineering operations and teams across multiple locations.
Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance, workshop management, compliance and engineering best practice.
Experience supporting electric vehicle operations, depot electrification, charging infrastructure and engineering readiness programmes.
A track record of delivering engineering change and transformation initiatives.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop and inspire high-performing teams.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Sound understanding of health, safety, environmental and transport legislation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to make effective decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
A CPC Transport Manager qualification would be advantageous.
