The post offered is a consultant position in old age psychiatry in Pearl Ward based at Highgate East Mental Health Centre.

Pearl Ward is a 15 bedded ward primarily for older adults with functional mental illnesses, such as psychosis, mania, and depression. One of the 10 PAs is for once weekly ECT. The ECT service has grown recently, so it would be useful to have an additional consultant involved in this. The responsibility includes supporting the ECT team with administering ECT to patients throughout the unit. There will be an opportunity to develop your ECT skills with the team.

The role of the Consultant is to be the clinical lead of the team and to ensure high-quality, patient-centered, effective, safe, and efficient care is delivered by the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership and act as the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act.
  • Oversee the delivery of ECT sessions in line with best practice and accreditation standards.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors, contributing to their growth and development.
  • Engage actively in teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
