The Role: To join 42 Technology’s business development team in the Medical Technology sector, with the remit to grow our Medtech product development business. The Head of Business Development (MedTech) will drive business development activities leveraging the company's established track record in device development, design, usability and our experience with regulated medical products. Mechanisms, connectivity, fluid mechanics, thermal control, electronics, sensors and optics are strong capabilities that we seek to build on. Embedded AI/Edge AI will be a growing theme in this area.
Main Duties / Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategy to grow the medical sector by selling high value, ambitious consultancy projects.
- Understand market needs and trends combined with pro‑active networking to identify prospective clients and to develop those relationships into new accounts.
- Help shape our future capabilities and service offerings to align with client needs and healthcare and technology trends.
- Manage existing client accounts to identify opportunities to grow the project portfolio.
- Be a thought leader on the current healthcare/medical technology trends and champion the production of marketing collateral aligned with 42 Technology’s capabilities and experience.
- Lead the commercial negotiation of projects, involving relevant legal and executive colleagues as appropriate.
- Liaise with relevant project managers to oversee project delivery, ensuring that projects are delivered in accordance with – or exceeding – client expectations as well as adhering to 42 Technology’s established business management processes and culture.
Working Relationships:
- You will report to the Director of Medical Technology.
- Regular reporting on progress and forecasts against strategy and plan to the wider Business Development team.
- Work with other members of the business development team to establish consistent and best practice within the team.
- Collaborate with key members of the project delivery team on your projects and accounts.
- Align on account ownership and responsibilities with other business developers who may be involved in developing business with similar clients.
- Coach other team members seeking to play a role in business development.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of medical device development e.g. Class I and II medical devices.
- Design controls, verification and validation within regulated environments.
- Home use, self‑administration and professional use contexts.
- Digital health, connected systems and wearables.
- Extensive knowledge of at least one medical sector e.g. Pharmaceuticals, Combination products, Autoinjectors, pens, prefilled syringes and on‑body delivery systems, Inhalers, nebulisers, DPIs and SMIs, Medical devices, Hospital ICU and operating theatre, clinic, home use and laboratory‑based equipment, Diagnostics, In‑vitro diagnostics, point‑of‑care systems, wearables etc., Surgical and interventional devices (particularly minimally invasive surgery and surgical robotics).
- Understanding and familiarity of current and emergent trends within the sector.
- Business development experience in consulting or a related field.
- The right to work in the UK.
- Valid passport and willingness to travel regularly internationally.
Desirable:
- Consulting experience involving product development.
- Embedded AI or Edge AI technical knowledge and a relevant network.
- Experience managing complex product development/R&D projects.
- First‑hand experience of corporate innovation processes.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
