The Role

To contribute to 42T’s client projects that have electronics and/or software content. The role will also include the use of modern engineering tools, including AI-assisted tools, to support development and problem-solving. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working between both disciplines, as they will be contributing to electronic design, developing embedded systems and supporting the delivery of innovative, high-quality solutions for a range of clients.

Main Duties / Key Responsibilities

  • The core responsibility will be to help deliver high quality consulting engineering services to our clients.
  • To achieve this objective you will work with other project team members, including the project technical lead, to understand customer requirements and define solutions that meet those requirements.
  • Development of firmware and software for operating electronic systems or for test systems.
  • Design of electronic circuits.
  • Analysis & modelling of circuit and system performance.
  • Definition of test schedules and test electronic circuits and systems.
  • Contribute to the development of electronic systems which may comprise:
    • Instrumentation and sensing systems.
    • Control and embedded systems.
    • Power electronics.
    • Communications interfaces.

About You

Essential Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in electronic engineering, computer science or similar discipline.
  • Experience analysing, designing, constructing & testing electronic circuits during degree projects.
  • Test experience should include use of basic electronics test equipment such as oscilloscopes and DVMs.
  • Experience of schematic entry tools such as KiCAD, Eagle or Altium.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Post graduate qualification (Master/PHD) in electronics engineering, computer science or similar discipline.
  • Experience analysing, designing & testing electronic circuits as a result of summer placements, internships or as a hobby.
  • Experience combining electronics and software in practical projects (e.g. embedded systems, robotics, IoT).
  • Familiarity with data processing, algorithm development, or modern software techniques (e.g. basic machine learning or AI concepts).
  • Experience writing VHDL for FPGAs.
  • Matlab experience for analysing data, developing algorithms and model creation.

  • Able to work independently but with some direction and supervision.
  • The ability to participate as part of a creative multi-disciplinary team on a wide range of problems.
  • Comfortable tackling a wide range of technical challenges.

Verbal and Written Communication Skills
