The Company 3t is currently looking to recruit a Trainee Cable Jointing Instructor on a permanent contract located in Manchester, England. 3t is the combination of world-leading companies that are together transforming training in the energy and wider safety-critical sectors, combining cutting-edge immersive technology with award-winning high-impact workforce training.
Role Purpose: Your main purpose is to assist in designing and delivering high-quality training packages to the electricity industry as well as facilitating construction and utility-based occupational qualifications. The main subject area will include LV and 11kV cable jointing, supporting the delivery of technical certificates in power engineering, and delivering compliance training related to distribution work activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out training on electricity distribution and transmission systems and assess learners’ competency in work activity against a national qualification standard.
- Design and write high-quality training packages to meet the needs of electricity industry customers.
- Deliver high-quality training in line with industry cable jointing standards and health and safety legislation.
- Ensure all health and safety legislation is complied with while carrying out training either on customer’s premises or at the UCT Electrical training centre.
- Liaise with existing and new customers on the delivery of training needs within the business.
- Ensure all training equipment is maintained within specified timescales.
- Conduct assessment processes in line with award body, Centre policy and procedures.
- Make assessment decisions and give written or verbal reviews as required.
- Maintain targets and performance objectives.
- Attend centre standardisation/team/centre award body and lead body meetings.
- Ensure a high-quality learning experience and support for learners which meets internal and external requirements.
- Use a variety of assessment methods appropriate to qualification standards.
- Organise assessment activities to make best use of time and resources.
- Maintain organised records of assessments conducted and support the learner throughout the learning process.

Essential Criteria:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the electricity distribution/transmission cable jointing activities.
- Hold a City and Guilds Level 2 as a minimum or equivalent in a relevant subject.
- Hold or have previously held authorisation for LV Jointing.
- Must hold or be willing to be developed to holding a recognised assessor qualification.
- Have good analytical reasoning.
- Be capable of operating independently and highly organised, with the ability to prioritise your own workload.
- Be an excellent verbal and written communicator.
- IT literate.
- Hold a full UK driving licence.
Desirable Criteria (full Training Will Be Provided):
- D32/33 (or equivalent A units) NVQ assessor qualification.
- Health and safety qualification (i.e. IOSH, NEBOSH).
- Teaching qualification i.e. PTTLS etc.
- Hold or have previously held authorisation for 6.6-11kV Jointing.
- Hold or have previously held authorisation for 33-132kV Jointing.
- Have a working knowledge of the electricity transmission and distribution system.
- Have a working knowledge of LV and HV operations.
- Hold or have previously held authorisation for fitting.
- Hold or have previously held authorisation for generator connection.
- Have proven experience of delivering training through a combination of classroom presentations and practical exercises.
Formal training qualifications are not essential, as full support will be provided to help you obtain these. In line with our commitment to safeguarding, any offer of employment for this instructor role is conditional upon the satisfactory completion of an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Working Hours & Pattern: This role is contracted at 40 hours per week. The standard working pattern will be 7.30am to 4.00pm or 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
